    Default Bet Sizing

    Hi guys,

This may be a silly question but I think I need it answered.

Firstly, I'm from the UK and as such am used to odds being displayed as fractions, rather than, for instance, -115.

Each bet that I place, I place the same amount (1 'unit'), whether it's + money or - money. Should I be structuring my bets so that each bet results in a win of 1 'unit'? Or am I ok betting the same on each of my bets, regardless of whether it's + or - money?

If this is the case would someone please explain the reasoning to me.

    Many thanks

I always wager 1 Unit on dogs (+) and wager to win 1 Unit on favorites (-). For example, If I like a dog that is +135, I will wager $100(1unit) to win $135. If I like a favorite that is -175, I will wager $175 to win $100(1unit).

    Thanks for the reply.

From looking around this site I thought that was the case.

Can you explain to me the reasoning behind this? Is it just personal preference? Or is it mathematically correct to do so?

    Thanks

Thanks guys. I was looking at buying Sharp Sports Betting by Stanford Wong. Would you recommend the Yao book over this?

So, 1 "unit" always equals $100? Or is it somehow related to your bankroll? Thanks.
