Question San Diego @ UNLV -11

I will probably be attending this game tomorrow afternoon, and would like to know how you guys feel about this one. I don't start capping basketball until December. So I need some of you earlier bettors to cue me up on this one.

States key player has been kicked off the team. However 11 is a lot even for a home team

It is not San Diego State, Pimike. San Diego from the WCC.

Ok Then SAN DIEGO is a great bet plus the points, remember they made the tourney last year. I love that game

UPDATE ON TORERO SUSPENSIONS: Senior center Gyno Pomare (Oceanside, CA), sophomore forward Clinton Houston (Dallas, TX) and sophomore guard Trumaine Johnson (Houston, TX) are currently serving suspensions for unrelated violations of team rules.

UNLV is who I actually lean towards in this game, Looker.

This is a terrific matchup already. Two terrific coaches -- two of my favorites actually -- with excellent teams.

Bill Grier turned down a PAC10 job at Oregon State, and stayed at San Diego, so you know he had something to stay for. He has all five starters back, and that's from that team that went 14-2 at the end of the season, and beat UConn in the first round of the tournament. The WCC has some other teams -- St. Mary's and, of course, Gonzaga -- but this is a team that could make some noise again this year.

In Vegas, Lon Kruger also had a great season last year, including a little run at the tournament, and he has brought excitement back to the Thomas and Mack. He has three starters back, including Wink Adams, the speedy guard. The Rebels have some excellent new talent to work with as well. They could contest, with BYU and New Mexico probably, for the MWC title.

Essentially I think you are in for a great game, onlooker. I suspect this will feel more like a December game than a November game. Whoever gets the win out of this starts out the season with a nice feather in their cap.

If I had to bet it ... San Diego +11. The Toreros may not win it, but I don't see Bill Grier and his experienced team letting this game get out of hand.

Enjoy the game onlooker. Should be great.

By the way, UNLV looked pretty sloppy in their exhbition game on Tuesday, and Wink Adams was slightly injured. Here's an article to check out (from the LV Review Journal):

In his role as a film critic, UNLV coach Lon Kruger had plenty to say Wednesday when he met with his basketball team.

Kruger pointed out what went wrong in the Rebels' 74-56 exhibition win over Division II Washburn on Tuesday. He called his team's play "sloppy" and turned the game tape into a positive teaching tool.

"I thought the experience was terrific for us because we've got on tape areas where we need to improve in, and the players clearly understand it," Kruger said. "That is a much better frame of reference from a learning perspective than a 30-point blowout win where possessions aren't significant. I don't think we could ask for more from an exhibition game."

Senior guard Wink Adams scored 27 points but suffered a bruised right calf with about five minutes remaining. He rested for most of Wednesday's practice at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Adams said he will be ready when UNLV opens the regular season Saturday against San Diego.

"After the game when I sat down, that's when the pain started coming, and it swelled up overnight," Adams said. "Even if it's not back to 100 percent, I'm definitely playing."

The Rebels, who led Washburn by two points with six minutes to go, committed 22 turnovers.

"We were sloppy with our ball handling and sloppy with our assignments defensively. It's not unusual from any other first-time effort in other years," Kruger said. "I think because expectations are a lot higher, then all of a sudden you're judged a little bit more critically. But we can't worry about that. We have to worry about getting better, and I thought we learned a lot."

• NOTES -- Kruger said freshman Oscar Bellfield is the probable starter at point guard Saturday.

One more thing you want to know: Gyno Pomare, USD's center is suspended, and it looks like he will not be reinstated for tomorrow's game. This is the reason I will probably not bet this one. Not to mention, it's just so dang early. I sorta like to see teams play just a little before I start wagering on them.

Without the suspensions, San Diego. With, UNLV or no play.

65-60 UNLV Wins.

I didn't attend because when I got up to the Thomas and Mack about 5 minutes to 3 o'clock, the parking lot was packed and I could not find a parking space. So I just cruised home and watched the 2nd half here. I guess I should of left earlier, but I lost track of time at the sportsbook I was at.
