I don't have kids......but my situation sounds very similar to yours my man. Nothing quite beats a last second cover.....until you lose in the same fashion on the next bet, lol. I have no money management, maybe the worst luck with regards to betting known to man, and it consumes my life. Hopefully this will be my opportunity to get a real handle on it. Life is too short to be messing around with something that really is a waste of time. Let's be honest, we don't win long term, and we put so much time, energy and emotion into it.

There's no "discipline" for people who bet like you've described. Sure it's the answer, but it ain't gonna happen. If you quit, you will have a better life.

I really wish I was alone in this matter, but I know there are others out there struggling like me, and likely many who are struggling way worse. There's a compilation of things that have built up that is making this extremely difficult to deal with and keep quiet. I've put myself in this situation and it's no one's fault but my own. It's very hard to quit....sometimes I worry that I've rewired my brain to need the action...similar to an alcoholic. I've been very disciplined the last 4-5 months and play small units, so I hope I can just keep that up.

I guess I admire the guys here who can contain themselves, bet with discipline, and not let it consume their lives. As long as I have funds in an account, nothing else in my life matters......never thought I could be so messed up.

YUP......we sound like one in the same. It's difficult when you lose in unimaginable ways in the last few seconds.....only to see a swings of 6 or 7 units, knowing now you have to win 7 straight just to get back to where you would have been. I say screw it, and try to win half of it back or all of it......and I lose 90% of the time when I do this.....its maddening! I need to get through this weekend.

Church and flowers can be accomplished.......just moving on, now that's much harder said then done.

When you think about this stuff constantly and subconsciously, it's pretty hard to just move on. I'm thinking it will be a day by day process.....probably even hour by hour process.

What happens is when you lose and have lost a large amount, your perspective on money changes. On day 1 you have 9 bets for $10, you are 50 down so you bet to recover that 50 and make a small profit, some days you do, but others dont. So the losses mount. And every day you work it so you will recover your losses. So your $10 monday bet is a $100 friday bet. Your perspective becomes skewed moneywise - it means less and less - $100 becomes a penny. You beat yourself up which makes it worse. And the only way you can get the feelgood feeling is to bet amounts large enough to wipe out your losses overnight, which might happen once, but the spiral will repeat - Ive read a psychology paper or two on it too.
There is no way out other than to go cold turkey and quit.

Regul8er, hang in there... sleep and sleep. It will take couple days to get your mind off. I know it's tough because you just keep thinking about your losses... and the feeling is horrible. Also, you should change password of your 5dimes account to some random characters(I think you did this before), or even close all accounts.

It is a disgusting feeling when sports betting is the last thing on your mind when falling asleep and first thing on your mind when waking up....
These things we call "vices" should really be spelt "vises" - pretty hard to get out of once you are inside... but realizing you are your own worst enemy can go a long way.... realize you won't get back that which you've lost and if you decide to gamble again, just have fun with it.... this is no way to make a living.

Things will always get worse before they get better. Often when we have been in this game for a while we end up inevitably falling victim to something like Newtons' Laws of Motion - the harder you try and more effort you exert towards a desired end, quite often you achieve the opposite result. And having invested so much time, energy and money into a losing endeavor can only further the burden you have placed on yourself.

Keep your chin up and realize things will get worse before they get better, but they do get better.

WOW....alot of suppot and alot of good advice. I have probably started about 5 or 6 of these threads in my 7 year history here at sbr, so I figured people would just ignore me going forward, which would have been perfectly fine. I have been caught up in this vicious cycle many times before, always trying to quit, but always finding my way back.

I will keep you guys updated on my progress...I'm convinced I can get through these next few weeks, and if so...it won't be near as difficult come April. I have Fantasy Baseball that can keep me occupied in the sports world.

I've fuckdd myself chasing in the past. Lost six hundee to a local and would go to the casino and lose a couple hundee every other week or so and that was when I was working a bad retail job. Ever since I finished college and got a real job I've been pretty good about not going to the casino and not chasing losses. It helps that I got better at handicapping though. I got caught last night chasing Houston live though. Anyways I've been where you are and rebounded better than ever.

Regs, I'm always rooting for you, but common pal. You've made so many threads like this, and you always come back. I honestly thought someone bumped an old thread of yours until I clicked into it and saw the date. Just a few weeks ago you were making threads about how well you were doing.

Regs we've all been where you are but how many times will it take for you to make a change?? It's hard to feel bad for you when you keep making the same mistakes over and over and over and over

Thanks patty......yup, same mistakes time and time again! It's true.....don't get me wrong, I'm not seeking a pity party....so don't feel bad for me, not even in the slightest....I've brought this all about on my own.

I have a good handle on just about every aspect of my life, except sports gambling......it's a dark cloud that just continues to linger. I learn from lessons in every walk of life, except this, I truly can't explain it. I guess my brain is just wired in a messed up way.

Difficult seeing big games tipping off right now.....but I'm not even gonna keep an eye on things. I'll watch UK and XU tonight as a fan, but it'll stop there. Selection Sunday obviously too.

    Amen bro.
Sports betting needs to be taken as fun more or you will be broken on the inside...regretting plays you made...thinking about it almost always and distracting more important things in life.
I know this, but for me - I'm in the same boat - I can't NOT think about it for 3 hours straight during a day. It sucks and trying to just let it go...if I have a bad day, remember that tomorrow is a new, fresh day.
We all lose, but it's a matter of not letting it get to us - taking a hit from time to time, and betting when are minds are clear.

But I shouldn't have gotten involved anyways - just stepped up and thought you were getting out of line and that was no place to do it.

hahaha....I like that KRIT. But seriously, I need to get things in order. If I re-up, I'll do the same thing whether it be today, in a week, in a month.......the exact same thing will happen when I go on a cold spell, which is inevitable. This is certainly going to be a lifestyle change for the better.

Best thing to do is NO ONLINE BETTING. its to easy to chase losses. Second not to bring you down but why were you on AZST ?? BIG public favorite and line moves in your favor?? I've battled meny addictions overcame them all on my own. All mine started after I couldnt play football anymore??? Must be trying to replace that thrill and rush I got from football. Good luck man

The last couple days I kept backing teams that played the night before, against an opponent where it there first game. I went 1-8 in these situations I believe, C-USA really got me. The teams I played came out flat, but not when I tried to reverse. But I need to stop thinking about this....I really do.

Do you have family, friends, hobbies, things you love other than gambling? There are bigger things in life than money/gambling. Money comes and goes. Enjoy the more meaningful things in life, and appreciate what you have. When things get rough, enjoy the smaller things in life.

If you don't have family, friends etc, and gambling is in fact your life, then you're right, you have hit rock bottom.
