    Default 1st half over

    Southern Miss/SMU over 61 1st half
-I do not expect much defense between 2 medicore teams. Southern Miss is coming off the worst 1st half of the season against Memphis. Southern Miss only scored 14 points in the first half. Southern Miss is going to do a whole lot better in this game. SMU is not as good defensively as is MEmphis.

-Both teams will score over 30 points each in the first half.

how do you like Texas A&M/Colorado 1H under 59? don't like taking 1H numbers that low, but both slowdown teams and only way Colorado wins is by slowing it down. i see this being something like A&M/Nebraska last week [although nobody slows it down like Nebraska], and although that game had 61 points 1H, 37 were from Nebraska and it's hard to envision Colorado hanging that many 1H tonight. also fits with your theory of games skewing under at higher altitudes. last year's home finale at Colorado totalled 50.

also like the following to cover by 10 or more:
    Marq/Pitt ov 148.5 [Pitt, 85-77]
    Kansas/Tx Tech un 154.5 [KU, 78-66]
    NW/Purdue ov 124 [Purdue, 75-59]
    DePaul/WVU un 135 [WVU, 73-45]

    Biff...

I like the Marquette/Pitt over... the under in the Kansas game scares me somewhat as Texas Tech has lots of very high totals...

eatdust, thanks for your thoughts. when i ran the forecast on KU/Texas Tech, i was surprised that it was that far under. i expected it to be over given the scores from Tech this year. KU has been playing great defense of late, only allowing 2 teams [Okla, K State] to break 70 since mid-January, but their best defensive performance have been at home. at Tech, KU will probably be fine running at a faster pace if that's what Tech wants to do. there are probably better options out there than this one if style of play for tonight isn't clear [and it isn't].

    10 unit play: Boston college +1.5 (-115) 1st half
-Boston COllege is a much better team than NC state. In the first matchup this season, BC outrebounded NC ST by a 40-24 margin. BC had 19 offensive rebounds while NC state had 10. BC is a better at 3 point shooting and a better free throw shooting team. Because of their rebounding advantage, BC attempted 8 more shots than NC state. BC defeated NC st by 17 in the 2007-08 season. BC had a huge rebounding edge in that game too. I think this is not a good matchup for NC state. BC also has more time to get ready for this game. BC last played on Feb 24 and that gives them 6 days off.

BC will be up at halftime. I believe its safe to take BC on the ML.

I have a play that I like more than BC. I like Iowa St +5.5 1st half. That is way too many points for nebraska to cover at the half. Nebraska has covered the first half spread in 2 straight games. Iowa st did not cover the first half spread when it played at Texas A&M as they were 44-37.

definitely agree re: Iowa St, hoop. didn't cap this one, but only due to lack of time. nebraska plays painfully slow at home, and would be thrilled with any halftime lead.

    Guru,
i have been following your fh plays the last few days, you really do a nice job with them. do you find first half easier to find an advantage in than full games. When handicapping first halves do you only look first half
    performances of the teams involved?

    good luck tonight

those were my big money plays. nice to know that on same. this is my card for right now:
    4 1/2* Iowa St 1H +5.5 [almost 5*]
4 1/2* BC +1 [this is what Legendz had it at. won't cause a lost but could cost a win; however, i agree BC leads at half, like Richmond yest]
    4* Texas A&M/Colorado 1H under 59
    4* Florida/Miss St 1H under 69.5
    3* NW/Purdue over 124
    3* Wyoming 1H +4.5
    3* So Miss/SMU 1H over 60
    lean C Michigan -7.5

agree. i actually upped my Iowa State play. i'm kicking myself for not looking at that game for a 1H under. the number was small, but Nebraska plays so ugly. it could be 17-13 half, and the coach with 16 would walk off the court like he'd just won the lottery.

need BC to play a little more d.
