I played this huge tonight and how do these high powered offenses with no d only score 50 some points in the first?

Too many missed FTs in this Hofstra-OSU game. 16 misses in the second half alone.

    Coincidence?

That's the way the ball bounces, not nearly as bad as picking a second half under that hits easy - but the game goes into OT and it loses. Seen that already too.

    [5pm ET] Maryland-Alabama Under 128 [-110]
This could be an absolute grinding, half court game. 'Bama has shown that it is still one of the better defensive teams in the country, much like 2010. Maryland meanwhile will be a work in progress under Mark Turgeon and a bit undermanned. Turgeon admitted his squad was gassed down the stretch against UNC-Wilmington. That will happen with six men getting most of the minutes. Against a physical team like the Tide, I expect they will find themselves worn out by game's end as well. Alabama has been efficient, but not overly explosive offensively.

    [7pm ET] Penn +102
Rider has been awful defensively, giving up 48% shooting through three games. Penn shot solidly last time against a good Temple club [46%] and took the Owls to OT before losing by 6. The Quakers have a solid duo in Rosen & Bernardini who should make this Rider defense pay.

Pretty much an even match as set by the oddmakers. Rider is going to win because of FTs.

    [1pm ET] LSU -8 [-110]
LSU seems to have taken quite well to Trent Johnson's decision to employ an up-tempo, European-esque style of play on offense. They have topped 80 twice already this season. Unfortunately for them, Northwestern outscored them with 88 yesterday after a strong start. They face a Western Kentucky squad that has done little right this season. They don't shoot particularly well, rely on the long ball too much and have had way too many turnovers. LSU has good scoring depth with five double digit scorers on the year and I think that variety plus their tempo gives them an edge here today. They will need to shore it up on D, but if they can tighten the screws just enough then I think they can cover this number.

    Tulsa-Northwestern Under 132 [-110]
Shoul be more of a half court, defensive battle today for Northwestern. The Wildcats showed they did not mind playing a little quicker against LSU's tempo, but Tulsa will play closer to the half court Princeton-style attack of NW. Tulsa doesn't run the Princeton style offense mind you, but they do keep the tempo and possessions more to a minimum. That should put a premium on defense for both teams today.

I hope Pinny keeps juicing that 131 without bumping it up. That'd be a good sign.

Honestly I think if Northwestern hadn't played the 88-82 game yesterday, the total would be in the mid 120s at best, so I'm hoping yesterday's game did a favor in that regard. Of course both teams still have to show up and play D!

    [6pm ET] Davidson +16.5 [-110]
I realize this is @ Duke, but this Davidson club is pretty damn solid. The Wildcats have a good inside-outside combo with Kuhlman and Cohen. De'mon Brooks is also a solid frontcourt presence. Duke has been solid, but unspectacular in my opinion this season. Davidson has an experienced coach and experienced team and I think that will allow this squad to keep this game closer if Davidson can get its shooting stroke going early and play solid D.
