Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 3/18/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
  • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

Coppin State +7: Taking a chance on this being a close game...

Oklahoma State +5: they played much better down the stretch, hopefully playing in the tougher conference helps out tonight.

BROWN/OHIO OVER 131: This total seems a tad low when you consider that all Brown road games are averaging 136.5 points this season, and all Ohio home games are averaging 138.0 points. Brown is on a 4-1 Over run while Ohio has gone Over in four straight contests.

OKLAHOMA STATE/SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNDER 122: The last five Southern Illinois games have averaged 115.4 points, and in three games vs. the six so-called power conferences this year, they scored just 45 points vs. USC, 51 vs. Indiana and 63 vs. Mississippi State. Oklahoma State is hitting on only 40.7 percent of their field goals on the road for the entire year.

Denver/Detroit under 211.5 - I don't understand this line, maybe an overreaction tot he Nugs last game, but then the line has even moved higher, but I think both teams even though they possess above average offenses, they both are capable of playing very solid D, and Detroit does a nice job of controlling tempo so that should keep this under the number

Phoenix/Portland over 209 - Neither team plays D, and hopefully both offenses show up to get this over the number

Los Angeles Lakers/Dallas Mavericks Over 208 -- Last two meetings went over this and I this game has a good chance for overtime tonight.

New Jersey Nets /Chicago Bulls Over 201 -- Last two meetings have been over, with both going over the 100 pt mark and they should be able to get it going again tonight.

Dallas -5.5. Mavs very good at home 29-4, Lakers good on road, but without Gasol, Mavs will be too much.

Warriors/Kings UNDER 228.5. I usually NEVER bet the under with the Warriors, but this is a rivalry game that usually ends up being a tough fought battle with more defense being played than usual by both teams.

581 Golden State Warriors -2 Over 228˝

GSW is the far superior team. I expect both teams to be running and gunning.

Dallas Mavericks -5˝ - at home this will be easy. Did you see the Rockets game?

Houston Rockets -4˝ - Rockets will add another one to their list. The Celtics are hot but the Rockets will prevail.

Houston U +4.5, CUSA sucks, but Houston U can score with the best of them, plus I like having both college and pro Houston's in a parlay

Houston Rockets -4.5, ride the 22 game winning streak to its death plus the Celtics played a lucky one last night and killed me.

Milwaukee -9 1/2

The trends go with the opposite direction but I just have a hunch on this one.

Milwaukee/Miami Over 197 1/2

The defense of both these teams has helped other teams find their shooting touch.

Suns-Blazers O209: The Blazers don't generally score too many points, but they can top 100 against Phoenix. Meanwhile, the Suns should be good for 110+.

Warriors -2: It's only a 'trap game' if the Warriors don't show up. I'll take my chances

Golden State -2. Warriorsw have quietly been playing decent ball, Sacramento struggles playing third games in four nights, and Artest is a question.

Houston -4.5. I think the Houston streak ends when we least expect it. Tonight they won't be caught unawares, and Boston is in the midst of a tough travel sked.

Golden State -2: Sacramento is banged up and we all know the Warriors can put up points. Golden State is also in the 8th spot for the playoff race and they know they need to win, where as Sacramento is out of the playoff race. I think GS rolls by double digits.

Maryland +3: Plays a tougher schedule in the ACC and has more offensive threats with four players that average DD where MN has only two. I'll take the points against my in-state team Minnesota...Usually works!

Robert Morris +13.5 Syracuse doesn't care about this game, Robert Morris will have no trouble with the zone.

Mt. St. Mary's -7 Mt St. Mary's doesn't even belong in the play-in game and Coppin St. lost 20 games.

LT you are killing me...most of my fave bets are worse numbers

GSW -2 Sac won't be able to keep up due to injuries.

GSW/Sac U 228.5
Kings have some banged up players and will have to slow the pace to be able to stay in the game.

#575 N.J. Nets +5.5 : the Nets suck, but so do the Bulls, i like the Nets to keep it close.

#602 Ari. St. -17.5 : i'm hoping the Sun Devils don't just go through the motions on this one, hopefully they will try and make a statement.

Celtics/Rockets OVER 181.5- Rockets have been playing more of a run and gun game... Celtics can go for a bundle as well... I think the winner gets somewhere around 97-100, so the other can take care of the rest...

Minnesota -3
The BARN is a tough place to play and Minnesota might have some pep in their step after their miraculous win over Indiana the other night... Maryland could probably care less because they were probably the biggest flop of the year and will choke in this tough environment tonight!

Ok St/S Illinois under 122 - If Southern Illinois cares about this game, they will come into it playing as strong D as possible. They are well rested to clamp down tough for 40 minutes, and if that's what they do, Ok St will likely oblige and clamp down back, keeping this one likely under.

Rhode Island/Creighton under 150.5 - I think Rhode Island won't care too much about this game, as their season unraveled at the end. As such they may not try to push the pace like they normally do, and if they don't, Creighton will be able to dictate the more moderate pace they usually prefer. If that happens this one is likely to stay under.
