Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Thursday, 2/21/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Friday (Feb 1) we will commence with the February Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
  • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

ND -4.5, too many 3's and Harangody for Pitt to stay within 5

Xavier -10.5, top of A-10 vs bottom of A-10, I'll take the home team and give up the points.

I am playing catch up the last few days of the month. It might go until the 29th.

PITTSBURGH +4.5: Notre Dame's long home winning streak may be in jeopardy here. Pittsburgh has responded well after each of there losses this season, and they can't play much worse than they played in an 18-point loss at Marquette last Friday. Look for a much improved effort tonight, especially with a full week to prepare. Notre Dame is just 1-5 ATS in their last six games, thanks to some breakdowns defensively as they allowed over 80 points in three games during this stretch and 74 in another.

WESTERN CAROLINA +5: NC Greensboro make a bad road favorite, considering that they are 6-8 SU on the road this year and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. Western Carolina is 4-0 ATS the last four times they have been underdogs, and they upset Chattanooga outright in their last home game.

spurs/timberwolves over 179 1/2, last two games have been over this by 10 or more so should this one

supersonics/trailblazers under 191 -- Last game was played real slow with a total of 168 and I see the same type of game this evening.

Michigan +8 - Minnesota is not a very good team and Michigan has improved their play in the last couple weeks.

USC -4.5 - USC is the better team and is at home which seals the deal.

Miami/Houston under 188.5 - Miami's offensive struggles should continue against the Rockets, and the rockets should control the style of the game and keep this under the number

Seattle/Portland under 191 - Think this is slightly too high even with Durant and Roy, but with the chance that one or both may not play, and certainly not play at full strength should keep this under the number

Thumbs up

Hi Bettors

I'm in hurry Today but I found some time to put my NBA Tonight's pick's...

Look at Pick's:
San Antonio Spurs -8˝ Over 179-(The Spurs continued their surge in their first game back on Tuesday, picking up a third-straight win with a 85-65 victory
over the Charlotte Bobcats in their first home game since
January 26.)
Houston Rockets -10 Under 188-(The Rockets continued their winning ways on Tuesday, picking up their ninth straight victory with a 93-85 victory over the
Cleveland Cavaliers. Rafer Alston scored 22 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead Houston.)
Seattle Supersonics +7 Over 191-(The SuperSonics ended a brief two-game slide on Tuesday as they rallied to claim a 108-101 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Earl Watson scored 26 points and added nine assists to lead
Seattle.)

P.s. Betting system can be the most reliable sports investment ....

715 Duquesne +10˝
I have the same feeling on both games, too many points to a good team. If anything they keep it close on the road!!
On a side not I am sinking like the Titanic in this contest, if I don't get one tonight I might as well hang it up.

Seattle/Portland over 191 - I think these two frustrated and skidding teams will try to outscore each other and not focus so much on defense.

Weber St -2 - Weber St is a decent team and has a good home court edge, I think they should be able to pull out a win against a mid-range conference opponent.

ND -4.5= ND at home should be enough to cover a pesky PITT team.

Houston Rockets -10= Rockets are on a roll right now, Miami shouldnt pose a threat.

These are the picks, but what do I know, Im almost in last place.

707 Massachusetts +5˝

711 Pittsburgh +4˝

Looking like some close games that will go to the wire. Both of these teams are fully capable of the SU upset too.

ND -4.5 - one of the toughest teams at home to beat.
Arizona - +2 - beat them bad last time - this line seems odd

Seattle +7: I just feel this is too many points given Portland's horrible ATS record of late, and their overall performance of late. I've got money on the M.L.

San Antonio -7.5: San Antonio is 15 points better, nevermind 7.5, and they close out games better than any team in the NBA. Whether this is in Texas, Minnesota or Mars, it really doesn't matter.

S Alabama +6 7-2 ATS on the road...biggest loss all year was by 6 points to Middle Tenn St.

Michigan +8 8 points is too much for Minn to be giving in conference play. Michigan has been playing better as of late and Minnesota is coming off of back to back losses in which they shot 33% in each.

taking it to the Sunbelt tonight.

#717 S.Ala +6 : the Hilltoppers haven't lost a game since these 2 teams played Jan. 5th, a WKU loss by 4. But the Jaguars are no slouch, this is too many points to give to a great defensive team, and both of these are battling for top spot in the Sunbelt.

#725 Mid Tenn St. +3 : the Blue Raiders are 11-4 ATS in Conf. play, and they have destroyed Dever the last 2 meeting, yes i know they were in Murfreesboro TN, but i fail to see how the Blue Raiders who have just played the top 2 teams in the Sunbelt, and covered both, actually won one outright, can not beat the Pioneers.

Miami Heat +10
Underdog is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings... Marion will help Miami keep the score close

Western Carolina +5: Covering the spread great lately, and NC Greensboro aren't that good.

Spurs/Wolves Over 179: Spurs should dominate the wolves D, and the Wolves put up points once in a while, hoping for a 90's game.

Denver -3 (v. Middle Tenn. State)
Denver has been a beast at home, covering easily in their last eight games in Denver, going back to the beginning of December. I'll ride that trend in this one.

Duquesne +10.5 (at Xavier)
I know ... Xavier is one of the most efficient teams in the country. But 10.5 is a lot to give to Duquesne. Duquesne averages 84.1 per game, and outscores opponents by an average of 11. They were tough on their last roadtrip, beating LaSalle and Dayton. They are coming off a loss, with five days of prep time (2 more than Xavier), and I think they give Xavier a game.

ND...-4.5 Gotta go with that massive home win streak and the future BE player of the year here.. Pitts whipping at Marquette has me questioning their road ability.
AZ +2.... Must win for the wildcats after a rough patch...Wash is able to play excellent on any given night but do they have much left to play for?

SanAntonio at Minnesota over 179.5
Usally I would say under ,but Minn plays very poor defense ,giving up over 100 pts a game. The Spurs however still play good D but not as good as they do when Tony Parker is in the lineup

Portland -7 over Seattle
With Brandon Roy back in the lineup, and James Jones firing up 3's,and Outlaw coming off the bench it gives the Trailblazers a big kick. Also Seattle also loses some good players today including Wally Szczerbiak going to Cleveland and Kurt Thomas going to SanAntonio. All of this seems to mean a bad night for Seattle, and a bad second half of the season.

701 San Antonio Spurs -8
The playoffs are not too far, the Spurs are about to start getting serious. Parker is expected to be back tonight.

704 Houston Rockets -10
There is no reason for Miami to stay focused, I am expecting them to be not completely back from the all-star vacation.

LT: I see the GA Tech has been postponed I'd like to add another selection if possible:

Weber St -2 over Montana: Weber St over last 10 years is 12-3 ATS vs Montana last 5-0 ATS vs Montana

Again if possible I'd Like to make this my selection to go with original selection of W Carolina + 5

Thanks!!!

Damn, didn't know that. I'll give you 2 more picks

UCLA -27 (Beat them at there own place by 23, and 27 shouldn't be too hard)

Arizona +2 (Coming off a bad loss at home against Stanford, Jerryd Bayless will score another 30+ point game)
