Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 2/12/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Friday (Feb 1) we will commence with the February Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
  • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

Miami Heat +6.5

The quest for the playoffs starts tonight and the best player of Heat will dominate against Nuggets worst and vice-versa.

Depaul +7

The quest for the Final Four starts this evening and the back-ups of Louisville will be used early and often when Blue Demons run them out the building midway to first quarter.

Default Parlay Contest Tuesday Feb 12,2008

{NCAA}

!.{Butler-6 over Wisc-Milw}
Butler's all everything player Mike Green who leads the team in pts.15.0,assist6.0,rbs.4.8 also gets his teammates involved enough to beat Wisc-Milw handily.

2.{UNC-8.5 over Virginia}
UNC has too much fire power with players like Tyler Hansbrough,Ty Lawson, that there.s no way Virginia coulg keep up.

Atlanta Hawks +4˝
Hawks are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Pistons are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.

Chicago Bulls +5˝
Bulls are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Morris Peterson and Tyson Chandler are questionable for Hornets... I might as well take the home underdog here

Detroit - 4 1/2 -- These team have met three times this season all three with detroit winning, the first meeting detroit only won by 1 point but the last two have been by over 10 points so I think Detroit beats them in this one by more than 4 1/2

Nuggets - 6 1/2 -- The last time these teams played Nuggets won by 26 points and Miami has not been playing well so I think Nuggets win this by over 10.

Air Force +13.0: Air Force is not an awful basketball squad and they should be able to keep it with in this number against a very good UNLV team.

Bradley -1.5: Bradley is simply the better ball team here and home court advantage is not enough to give Indiana State the advantage.

Looks like rake knows what the hell he is talking about and I do not have a clue so today I am copying:

Atlanta Hawks +4˝
Hawks are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Pistons are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.

Chicago Bulls +5˝
Bulls are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

I'll see if this works any better than just guessing!

Thanks Rake!

Default Tuesday Parlay Picks

W. Michigan - 4.5 over Miami Ohio: I see nothing but positive trends for W. Michigan: 7-1 ATS @ home: 8-2 ATS last 10 including four straight with a 20 point thrashing of Akron included in that run: 8-2 ATS in conference: in last 10 years all games played in W Mich vs Miami: W. Michigan 6-1 ATS vs Miami: Miami only 4-6 ATS on road: 4-6 ATS last 10 and 4-6 ATS in conference

Bradley -1.5 over Indiana St: Bradley 8-1 ATS in last nine: Bradley has had six straight ATS wins whereas Indiana St is 3-5-1 ATS last nine and has lost 8 out of 10 SU including five straight: also in last meeting Bradley won by 19 points!

MSU +1: Sparty is coming together starting tonight... Purdue is tough at home, but Izzo gets them through it by taking care of the bball.

Boston -4.5: Too many Pacers out tonight. Pierce makes up for Garnett being out.

UNC -8.5: UNC is just too good, averaging 91 ppg, UNC is 5-0 ATS when they are favored by 7.5-9.5 points. Virginia is 0-5 ATS in there last 5 games, the closest game being a 7 point loss to Virginia Tech.

Akron -18: Akron is good on Tuesday nights, and covered this spread (-18) against Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan, which are two teams that Northern Illinois lost to Straight up in the past month. With Akron at home as well, I expect them to cover this spread.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES +6.5: The Nets have pulled off two straight upsets, but they have been awful as favorites this season, going 8-14 ATS overall in this role including 5-10 ATS as home chalk. In fact, New Jersey is just 11-15 STRAIGHT UP at home. The Timberwolves are 3-1 ATS in their last four road games including an outright upset at Goldent State.

ILLINOIS +4.5: Illinois is not as bad as their record, although their habit of losing close games is disconcerting. Still, they are 4-2 ATS in their last six road games, and they are facing what we feel is an overrated Minnesota team here that is 1-3 both SU and ATS in their last four home games.

GAmember,

Read the rules. Two-team parlays with analysis only, and no halftime bets allowed. You may add another post abiding by the rules if you wish, but do not edit your first post.

Memphis +5: Certain plays are gut feelings. This is one. I don't trust Sacramento away from Arco, even against the lowly Grizzlies. They should win, but will probably do it the hard way and end up winning by three.

Indiana +4.5: I think the Celts, like the Kings, will win, but by a very narrow margin. The Pacers can score and in this one I see a buzzer-beater.

Purdue -1, Boilers won a big game against UWisc showing big balls, should sqeak by MSU

Marquette -3.5, algebraic equation here: ND kicks crap out of SHU last week on the road, ND squeaks by Marquette on Saturday at home, Marquette kicks the crap out of SHU again on the road

#711 N.O. -5.5 : with Chandler back, hes probable, and Gordon out for the Bulls, i don't see any reason the Hornets can't cover this number, they've been a ATS winning machine this season, generally when they win they cover.

#719 Bradley -1.5 : is this line a joke, or some trap i ain't seeing, Bradley has veteran guards, 4 DD scorers, and just destroyed Ind St. a couple weeks ago.

Vandy -4 : Home court should help here.

North Carolina -8.5 : Got to take the better team and lay points.

Denver/Miami over 209.5 - I see this as a very uptempo game with Denver putting up nice Offensive numbers and hopefully with Marion the Heat can resemble an NBA offense and get this over the number

NOK/Chicago under 192 - D should be emphasized by both teams here, and hopefully that will keep this under the number

Kings -5 Memphis was a low team when they had Gasol...Kings have been flying under the radar and have been a tough match-up for teams that are much better than the Griz.

Hornets -5.5 Hornets are the better team all around and Gordon is doubtful. Hornets are 3-0 ATS as road favs of 3.5-6 points and are 16-7 ATS on the road.

pistons OVER 181.5

both teams have a tendency to put up some points when they play each other, and both have as of late in their recent games

kings -5

kings are a hot and healthy team, should win in a rout

Virginia +8.5 I got this game in real life at 9. I like the points here as NC hasn't impressed me the last few games.

Butler over 128 I think Butler will light up the board against WI-Mil. today. I think this total will be a good 10 over.

701 Detroit Pistons -4˝
I think the line is 2 points off, the Pistons are too good, 4.5 is not that many points.

707 Minnesota Timberwolves +6˝
The Nets are bad, the win over Dallas does not change that fact.

705 Denver -6.5 I believe the action will be to fast for Miami
to keep up with.
714 Purdue -1 This is my favorite play. Revenge game. At
home this time. Big road win for Purdue last game.

I am on Purdue even though I am a Spartan fan. Michigan State has not been a good Big Ten road team in recent years. They have already lost straight up against Iowa and Penn State on the road. Purdue is much better than both of these teams. MSU continues to have turnover trouble and they can't stop the three. Neitzel and Morgan are having up and down games.

Purdue is one of the hottest teams in the land right now. This is one of the biggest home games in years for the Boilermakers. This looks like a four point victory by Purdue to me.

Louisville over DePaul
Louisville is playing so well as of late. They look like they have the potential to make a deep run in the tournament this year. I can't find a reason not to bet on one of the hottest teams in the country.

Wisc Mil +6 - This one should go down to the wire, I'll take Wisc Mil with the points.

Illinois/Minnesota under 128 - These two teams really go for defensive play, I think this one will stay under.
