Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Monday, 2/11/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Friday (Feb 1) we will commence with the February Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
  • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

Phil 76er's +3 : 76er's are actually showing life, won 3 in a row, yeah i know it was against Wash,Mia, and LAC, but they won & covered. hoping for an upset against a Mavs team that hasn't been impressive on the road this season.

Hou. Rockets -7.5 : the Blazers have finally feel back to earth, Rockets have covered this number last 2 meetings, i'm just hoping McGrady doesn't play much, Rockets seem to do better without him IMO.

Houston -8: Portland is a .500 team playing over its head, and no one on that roster can guard Yao. I expect a 20-point win.

Dallas -3: Philly just isn't very good; don't let wins against the likes of the mighty Clippers and Heat fool you. The Mavs will get back on track here.

Texas +4.5, Kansas is not as dominant as they were a few weeks ago, and DJ Augustine has UT rolling right now

GTown/Nova under 134, GTown cannot score 70 points against anyone right now and that is over half of the total, plus Jay Wright does not have but a few healthy player tonight

Wofford +7.5

I’m picking dogs tonight and I like this one. Playing better lately.

The Citadel +11.5

I’m picking dogs tonight and I like that one. Playing much better lately.

VILLANOVA/GEORGETOWN UNDER 134: Georgetown is only allowing 56.8 points per game all year, with their games averaging a combined 127.6 points. Now Villanova averages 72 points on the road, but they have been unable to solve this Georgetown defense, as the last three head-to-head meetings have all gone Under with Nova scoring just 56, 55 and 57 points respectively.

BOBCATS +8.5: Yes, the Bobcats have lost six straight and Lakers are hot, but that gives Charlotte value at home here. The Bobcats have won the last three head-to-head meetings straight up, and the Lakers are just 3-6 ATS their last nine as road favorites when playing with no rest.

Kansas & Texas Over 146˝: Im on the wagon with Iwinyourmoney's picks lately. Hopefully he stays hot tonight.

Orlando -8: Love the Magic rested and at home against a worn out Cleveland team limping into the break...

Loyola Marymount +30.5: It is very difficult for anyone to win by over 30 points against any team and Loyola Marymount kept it within this number the first time they played Gonzaga this season.

Dallas -3.0: Philadelphia is on an unbelievable shooting streak and it is very unlikely that it will continue against a very good Mavericks team.

501 Dallas Mavericks -3
The Mavs always seem to bounce back after a bad loss.

523 Kansas -4˝
The Texas team is overrated and Kansas will be prepared this time on the road (unlike against Kansas St.)

Rockets/Trailblazers under 183 -- The last two times these guys played they were under this so why would it be diff this time.

Golden State/Wash over 213 -- This seems a little low to me but Wash has been impressive, they may be tired after running with the suns but I think they can put this over 213

Kansas -4.5 : Think Kansas can cover here as they are due a big game.

GS over 213 : Tired Wizads squad should give up a lot of points here.

Villanova/GTown under 134 - This should be another toughed out game for GTown where they use their half-court offense and tough D to grind out a win, so I see this one staying under the surprisingly mid-range total.

Illinois-Chicago -1.5 - Ill-Chi is playing well right now, and riding a string of home wins. I think they'll get another one here and cover the tiny spread.

Kansas -4.5 (at Texas)

Texas has had to dig themselves out of holes in their last three wins. And they only pulled the win out against Iowa State in OT. They won't be able to do that against Kansas.

2* San Diego -3.5 (at San Francisco)

USD, with excellent new coach (who, incidentally, played a big part in turning Gonzaga into a national power), is competing with St. Mary's and Gonzaga for the lead in the WCC. USF will not get in the way. USF 1-5 ATS at home. The big difference is the defensive play. USD has an excellent D. USD had a week to prepare for game; USF had 3 days.

523 Kansas -4.5 @ Texas
Tuff game, but, I really like Kansas in this one. Texas just doesnt have that certain kill mentality that Kansas has. I am feeling the big K by 12.
527 St. Mary's -5.5 @ Santa Clara
This spread is a little off, should be around -10, so St. Mary's wins by 15 tonight.

Cleveland/Orlando over 196.5 - Two teams playing really well on Offense right now and not so much on D should get this over the number

Portland/Houston under 183 - Half court game with more D than O being played should keep this under the number

Cant help but like:
Orlando -8.5: Cav's will probably forfeit these games and wait til after the all star break to bring people back. Cav's got beat bad last night at home, and are traveling to Orlando today from Denver for another tough game. Orlando is well rested and healthy.

Washington @ Golden State Over 213: Golden State puts up the most points in the league with 109.5 and gives up 107.1. 4 of GS's last 5 games have gone over this total, the one that didn't was the most recent vs. Sacramento. Washington had a tough game in Phoenix last night losing by 1. I think this game will have no defense on account that GS is rested, Washington will slack on defense. I think GS win's something like 118-100, and Washington may put up some offense like last night's game. I know GS will carry their weight towards this total, and I am hoping that Washington does as well.

Dallas -3 This may be a trap but I'm taking the bait. Philly's hot play will not continue and Dallas will not get embarrassed again

Orlando -8.5 This line has moved a ton already and may well move a couple more points by tip off. Cleveland is beat up and tired and in a very difficult position to win.

lakers -8.5

no wallace tonight for the bobcats, this will def hurt them real bad, and with gasol on the lakers they r tearing it up, rout for the road team tonight

The Citadel +11.5 Citadel has covered in 6 straight games and 11.5 is a lot of points to be giving a team that is not too much better than them.

Wofford +7.5 App St has not covered in 5 games. These are two fairly evenly matched teams. App St won @ Wofford by 52-49 a month ago...the low score that may happen once again matched with Wofford's ability to effectively shoot the 3-ball should keep this one within the 7.5 needed to cover.

Mavs/76ers over 187

Both of these these teams aren't likely to eat up the shot clock. The only question mark is whether Dallas can finally get the ball to drop on the road...

Clippers +3.5

The Clips are a completely different team with Cassell at the helm. They will probably win this one outright.

Portland +8 - Brandon Roy back with team!
Washington +10 - Golden State hasn't covered the spread last 2 games at home. Since Chris Weber got the starting roll over Harrington. Bad move!
