Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Friday, 2/1/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Friday (Feb 1) we will commence with the February Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

***VERY IMPORTANT***

Please take note of new rule #5. You are no longer allowed to change your plays once you have entered a valid parlay, and any edited post is now a LOSS!

Can I get in this one?

If so.......

Knicks +8 - Portland has fallen off from their torrid pace. The Knicks have been in these games. 8 points is too much here. Randolph will do well in his first game back.

Bobcats OVER 218 - These teams run and dont play defense. Wallace and Jrich will attack the basket. They dotn play D so GS will score at will.

Raptors -6 1/2. The Raptors are rested and Bosh in particular will want to show the world tonight that he can match up to Kobe Bryant. Bosh will have a huge night, especially because he will want to validate his all star reserve selection. Look for the Raptors to run the Lakers ragged. Toronto by double digits.

Sacramento ML. The Kings have their offense clicking and the hornets have finally blown their wad and need to rest a bit here. Looking for them to slump for a few games.

Glad its a new month...today I'm taking

Houston @ Indy Under 201- its seems like a lot of points for these two teams to score and with McGrady listed on the injury report it seems like a low-mid 90s game to me.

Nets vs Heat Under 192- neither team is any good and both cant score a lot of pts. Looking for a 98-92 type game.

JAZZ -3.5 Good test for the jazz team playing on the road. They have been on fire at home and just started winning again on the road. They need the B2B to move up more in the west. GO JAZZ

MAIMI/NJ Under 189 Kidd don't like the team he is on. Maimi is just flat out bad and don't have main player that can throw up points

Hornets -2 Very solid team all around looking to rebound from a loss to GS. Kings play tough at home but do not have the firepower that the Hornets have.

Tor/LAL under 204.5 Raptors have the ability to play solid defense and have held opponents under 80 points more times than any other team this year.

Lakers/Toronto under 204.5 - Toronto can be a tough defensive team at times, and I think they will try to stifle Kobe and the Lakers' offense, rather than try to outgun them, which I think is likely to result in an under.

St. Peter's +2 - St Pete's was actually beating Rider in the second half last week, and Rider toughed out a win against them. They've had a week to prepare for this, and I think they are in good shape to pick up a win after going 1-15 in their last 16 games.

Default Hoops Parlay Contest 2-1-08 . . .

HOUSTON ROCKETS 25-20 INDIANA PACERS 19-27
February 1, 7:00 PM | Conseco Fieldhouse

The Rockets are just the better team in this matchup. They have showed they can go on the road and play good ball. They come into this game winning 5 of their last 6 and I look for them to continue their winning ways against a weak Eastern Conference team. The Rockets play great defense and that should also keep this a low scoring game. The under has hit 10 out of their last 11 matchups. Lets try and start this month's contest will a nice correlated parlay.

Play Rockets -4
Play Under 201 1/2

here's to a new month:

New Jersey -3: Wade is playing, but will be under the weather...no Shaq or Haslem. Hopefully after that embarassing loss in Minnesota and a win against the Bucks, the Nets will start to turn the corner.

New Orleans -2: Two very capable offensive teams going at it in Sacramento. Bibby will have a hard time keeping Paul out of the paint, and Sacramento's front line will be in trouble trying to keep Chandler and West off the boards. Hornets by 7.

Utah Jazz -4½: Jazz have won 10 of 11, going with the hot team

New Orleans Hornets -2: New Orleans has been playing really well of late.

USCFOOTBALL33's Parlay of the Day for 02/01/08

Orlando -4.5
Analysis: Orlando is a much better team than Philadelphia and the 76ers' 9-13 road record isn't scaring anybody. Take Orlando to cover the spread.

LA Lakers +6.0
Analysis: Toronto is coming off of an above 50% shooting outing and I am expecting a let down here against one of the best teams in the NBA and a solid road team. Take the Lakers and the points.

just want to mention that I meant home record, not road record above for Philly.

Dartmouth +5...Have no clue about these teams but know from capping game this line is way off. You might say trap game but I say Skipping "trap" games seems to always end up costing me.
Minn -6...Minnesota has become a completely different team in the lasst few weeks and I see the surge continuing big tonite. LAC are hurting with injuries.

Kings/Hornets Over 202.5: This total just seems too low for these two teams. NO hot right now, and Sacramento knows this is a big game. I see this game with both teams in the 100's, and both teams will carry their weight towards this total.

Jazz -4.5: Jazz are playing great, and the Wizards are at the start of a slump, and hopefully Caron Butler will sit this one out as well.

Cornell +3

Cornell has been beating Brown at their home with ease lately and I expect the better team to show up tonight and make a statement for the conference crown.

New Orleans over 202.5

Both teams have been scoring more than 100 points consistenly with their current full line-ups and I expect this game to be a shootout with a high possibility of even going into overtime.

513 New Orleans Hornets -2
Hornets have been great! I don't see any major reason why they shouldn't win this unless they beat themselves. Also,
New Orleans is 9-1 ATS in its last 10 games

521 Harvard +2
Everyone wants to pick Pennsylvania based on their last bouts with this team... but I'm thinking the opposite... Harvard is a much better team and although their past is bad in Pennsylvania, they are the better team and given the points here. Their records show about the same, but the teams Penn has actually beaten are pathetic as well... Harvard wins this straight up I believe.

516 Golden State Warriors -8½ Under 218
I can see one team not having a great shooting % tonight and it is alot of points

Hornets -2
Other than the loss the other night against GS the Hornets have been rolling. Look for them to start a new winning streak tonight.

Magic -4.5
Orlando is 3-0 against the spread @Philly over the last 3 seasons. Should easily cover in this one.

Utah vs Washington over 197.5 Both teams avg.99.9 pts. a game on offense.I I think when the tv lights come on they will step it up a notch.

NewYork vs Portland under 190 The Knicks scoring avg. is only 94.7,and they only allow 96.2 pts a game.Where Portland avgs 100 pts a game where on defense they only give up 95.5 pts a game.

Orlando Magic -4 1/2 I look for Orlando to run away with this game vs. the 76ers.

good luck everyone!!!

Sac +2 : Martin and Artest have been playing great since coming back from injuries, and N.O. can't keep winning and covering, can they?

Port/NYK un 190 : tough one here, NYK are 14-7 ov/un on the road, but Port. is 7-16 ov/un at home, i'm going with the theory that the Knicks suck, and Port plays good D.

Houston/Indy over 201.5 - Houston doesn't mind picking up the tempo vs. certain teams, and I think this will be the case here with Tinsley back for Indy. As long as Houston doesn't completely shut Indy down on D this should get over the number

Orlando/Philly over 197 - Orlando's Offense has been playing out of their mind recently and I don't see Philly doing anything to stop them, and as long as Philly shows up tonight on the offensive end (always questionable) this should get over the number
