Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

Iona/Canisius UNDER 141.5: Canisius won't score enough for the game to go Over, and they will probably slow the pace down anyway to give themselves a chance at home.

SONICS +6.5: Too many points for a 10-28 team like Memphis to be giving. We probably get added value here due to Seattle's 31-point loss at New Orleans Wednesday, but they were probably emotionally spent after taking Lakers to overtime.

Analysis: Philadelphia is simply not that great of a basketball team. However, they are good enough to keep a game within 11 points against anyone, even Boston. Take Philadelphia and the points.

Analysis: Both these teams are a little banged up and this game is going to be played in Chicago so it should be a little slower paced than Golden State would like. Take the under.

Raptors -6.5 Raptors have played well in their last 6 or 7 games with the exception of detroit where they always come up lame. Atlanta isn't a great team so take the home favourite. Toronto is 6 and 3 on Friday nights vs Atlanta's great 2 and 6 Friday night record (not that this stat really matters). I took the Rap's in the overnight lines for a nickel at -7 so I'm getting a bargain here.

Coming off a key victory over the Lakers last night, the on-and-off Suns will barely raise an eyebrow at lowly Minnesota. Their surprising loss to the T-Wolves earlier in the season came in the final game of a successful road trip, so revenge won’t factor in (not past the 1Q). Suns are 3-8 ATS as DD favorites. They will come out relaxed, allow Minnesota to get into a flow, and the defensive effort will be average at best. T-Wolves out-rebounded Suns 55-33 in first meeting, and should get plenty of easy baskets. Suns in first home game off a road trip (of more than one game) are 4-1 O/U.
