Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.

WV (Mountaineers) +2.5 : The Cards and Mountaineers have had some thriller games the last couple years. Bobby Huggins has always been a thorn in UofL's side when he was at Cincy. The sound fundamentals of WV's game will prevail against the inconsistent Cardinals.

This would be a fair line if the Suns were at full strength. They aren't, and winning in OT and traveling to the most difficult arena in the NBA is not a recipe for success.

Despite the respective rankings, SC has more talent than Wazzou. Add in home crowd, and maybe a little lookahead from the Cougs, and I think SC will get the win despite how disciplined and well-coached Wazzou is.

Detroit is a very good team, but playing b2b on the road, against one of Western conference Elite teams is not an easy task. They should rightfully be underdogs here. Spurs at home is tough team to beat and they should be up for this one after losing few road games in a row. I think there's some value on the Spurs as a small home fave. Only 2 buckets difference will cash this one.


706 Utah Jazz -6

I'm probably going to take the Jazz at home often if the lines will stay sensible. They have one of the biggest home advantages in the league and are much more talented and capable team that one might think from their current w-l record. They rolled over Indiana the other day and should be able to dominate the boards today as well. I like their chances of winning by more than 6 here, even against Elite team like the Suns.

FURMAN +9½: As bad as Furman is, Western Carolina is no great shakes either at 4-10 SU, and we don’t feel they should be this big of a favorite over anybody. One of Furman’s two wins this season did come vs. the Catamounts, and we look for the Paladins to play them close again.

Analysis: I obviously don’t need to tell you why UCLA is good as they are currently sitting at 14-1 that was earned against some very good competition. The problem with this one is that UCLA is not 17 points better than a team that has played within this margin against such teams as Texas A&M, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Washington State. In addition to that, Washington has taken down solid programs like Portland State, CS-Northridge, and LSU in Baton Rouge! Oh and UCLA is hurting right now with Darren Collison and Michael Roll (among others) being injured. Bottom line: UCLA is the better team, but they are not 17 points better, especially with the injuries that they currently have! Take Washington and the points.

Saint Louis +1.0
Analysis: ROTFLMAO! O.k., I have stopped laughing for the moment! Where should I start with this one? Why in the world should a 4-6 George Washington who hasn’t beaten a winning team all season be favored over a 9-5 Saint Louis squad who has wins over IUPUI, Pacific, and Southern Illinois (I know SIU is struggling this year, but I still have respect for this program at 7-8). The bookie must be banking that a 4-1 home record that was earned against soft opponents is better than a 2-4 away record by Saint Louis that is a result of much better competition. And we have a kicker! George Washington lost Travis King recently to a knee injury. Bottom line: We have the better team, who has played better competition, and who is healthier than their opponent. Take Saint Louis and the points.
