Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 1/9/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Det. (Pistons) +2.5 : One of the best teams in the east getting points against a West team that hasn't looked impressive, i'll take it.

Cle.(Cavs) +2.5 : Lebron has stepped his game up lately, and i'm still not sold on the Hawks.

Cleveland Cavaliers +2 1/2: The Cavs have been playing pretty good ball as of late, can't say the same for Atlanta, losing to a lot of mediocre teams.

Phoenix Suns -11: Hate laying so many points, but I really think they'll run the Pacers out of the building tonight. The pacers have lost two games in a row by double figures (LA, Utah), tonight should be number 3.

Knicks are on a back-to-back and they are coming off a big road win in chicago last night... Don't look for them to maintain the momentum against Yao and company...

Suns -11
I have about all, but given up on my Pacers for the year... Last night was completely embarrassing! Suns might win by 30 since we don't know how to play defense any better than a high school team!

Magic -3.5 - The Magic may have been sucking lately, but there is no way they are going to drop yet another game, this time to the L.A Clippers. The Magic are too good of a team not to cover the spread here. I take the Magic -3.5 as they look to get back on their winning streak

Houston Rockets -5 - C'mon, we're talking about the NY Knicks here. Need I say more? Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets will annihilate the lowly Knicks in this battle.

522 Los Angeles Clippers +4
Don't like the Magic in this back to back. They have also been struggling recently.

566 Middle Tenn State -7˝
Florida Atlantic is horrible, Middle Tenn is a double digit win better.

Rockets/Knicks -- Rockets -5 1/2, This one could bite me in the ass but Just as I said the other day I really dont like this Knicks team and I think the Rockets expose them again this evening

Trailblazers/Golden State -- Trailblazers -2, Trailblazers are hot, hot, hot, and I still think Golden State has areas to improve on.

01/09/08: USCFOOTBALL33’s Parlay Of The Day

This is Too Easy! I dream about days like this!

Orlando -4.0
Analysis: Well Orlando has done it! They have suckered the bookies into thinking that they aren’t capable of beating an awful home team on the road. Problem is that Orlando is more than just capable as they are one of the best road teams in the league and you can bet that they have something to prove after being embarrassed the last few days. Take Orlando to cover the spread here.

Houston -5.5
Analysis: Every New York Knick win this season except one has been followed by a lopsided loss and I am not expecting tonight to be exception number two. New York just beat Chicago, so what? Chicago sucks. And staying on that same train of thinking, New York sucks too. Guess who still doesn’t suck without McGrady in the lineup? That’s right, the same team that went to Washington and beat them yesterday. Also, I doubt Houston’s 10-11 road record is afraid of New York’s 7-11 home record. I guess the bookie is still waiting for the No-McGrady-Effect to sink in. As for me, I have waited long enough. Take Houston to cover the spread.

NC Charolotte +14.5 over Clemson
Don't know much about NC Charlotte but I think Clemson will come out flat after that tough loss against UNC and won't put this one away til the very end of the game.

76er's +8.5 over Raptors
Because I'm from Philly!!

Detroit BASKETBALL +2 Coming off the lost to Boston and a nice 4 day rest. I see detroit winning with good D fence ( allowing only 89.3 a game) while dallas allows 96.6 point a game.

RI +3 Both teams are red hot, but I see RI as the better shooting team tonight from 3 point range. Granted this is in the Flyers house, but this is conference game and any team can win. Should be close all game with RI winning by 2 at the end.

Miss +9.5...13-0 Sec team with three tough conference wins (one over strong Clemson team) should not be getting this many points even if they are playing @ Tennesee. I think this is a steal and Miss will gain national respect tonite with win or close loss.

Pitt-3...Suprisingly still playing tough after two key injuries...S Fla has been playing decent on road and home against tough competition but plays very sloppy at times and wont hang with speed and outside shooting of Pitt.

Duke -12.5 (v. Temple, at neutral site near Temple (Wachovia Spectrum in Philly))
Temple can’t stop Duke’s 3-point scoring, and Temple won’t get many good looks for themselves. Blowout.

UAB +2 (at Tulane)
UAB has had the harder schedule, and, IMO, is better than many think. They have played some good teams tough in fairly close losses (Florida State, Rhode Island, South Florida). They beat Kentucky in Louisville (for what that is worth). Tulane has been a cover machine lately, but it looks to me like that might end today.

Cleveland/Atlanta under 188 - Should be a half court style game and with Cleveland's renewed commitment to D, and their mediocre O, as long as this game avoids OT or a foul fest at the end like last time they met (19 points in final minute) it should stay under the number

Seattle/NJ over 196.5 - Hoping that NJ's new commitment to an offensive style of play continues, and that Seattle remembers how to find the basket. Game should be up and down, and hopefully with just some decent offense gets over the number.

GTech +2, Tech has the better coach and UGA is running out of players.

CLE Cavs +2.5, Lebron has hit 30+ in 5 or 7 against the Hawks, plus hawks are not that good.

Houston Rockets -5˝
Got no clue -- ZERO -- about the NBA. Just thought I'd swim or sink with the consensus here on this game.

Mississippi +9˝
This spread seems about right, would have rather played the Under 164 if the totals had come out sooner. For some reason I'm seeing something like 82-75 in Tennessee's favor tonight.

Also, I have read about how the Duke-Temple game is a 'neutral site' contest from several people today. Yeah, it's not in Temple's home gym, the Liacouras Center, and is in the Wachovia Center. But that's only about 5 miles or so south of Temple's home gym, tough for me to call it a neutral site game. Owls would have a better shot in the Liacouras Center, if for no other reason than the Wachovia opens up extra seating the Duke bandwagoners. But I still can't think of this as a neutral site game.

Detroit, +2.5. They've had several days to stew about their loss to Boston.

Portland -2. Their fantastic run at home includes a 10-point win over the Warriors a month ago.

567 Marshall -4 -- Rice is coming off 3 straight ATS wins as huge road dogs, but they lost all 3 games and teams that lose 3 straight on the road are just 41% ATS as a home dog in their next game the last 8 years.

505 Houston Rockets -5˝ -- The Knicks are 12-28 ATS after a win the last 2+ seasons and while Houston isn't much better after a win, I think they should grab a 2nd straight road win tonight.

Philadelphia +8.5...Sixers always seem to compete and should be on edge off home loss to Bucks in a tough right-after-road-trip spot.

LA +2.5...Strong revenge spot for team that's been playing well.
