Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Saturday, 1/5/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Sacramento Kings +7.5 : Kings are playing good ball against east coast teams, with Deng out for the Bulls i look for Sac. to cover this # or win outright. Sac. may have lost Artest, but Garcia has been impressive as of late.

Ok (Sooners) -26 : Rice has covered to straight +20 spreads, that stops today in Sooner-ville, the dominating presence of Longar in the lane will open up the 3-ball, look for the Sooners to run the Owls out of the gym.

Detroit -2.5

Detroit is hot right now (looking for 11 straight wins) and went into boston and beat them there. At home I have no doubt they cover. Detroit is 20 -6 -1 in their last 27 games and 11 and 4 at home ATS.

Portland - 3.5

The Blazers are also hot right now, it's been the square play since this contest started so why stop now. They are 13 and 5 at home ATS and Utah is not a strong road team.

Kansas over Boston College
I think the defense of Kansas will create turnovers that will lead to easy buckets. BC is not that impressive at home.

Wisconsin Millwaukee
over University of Detroit
University of Detroit has lost seven games in a row and this game is at Wisconsin Millwaukee. Wisconsin Millwaukee is playing really well of late: winning three games in a row including ATS.

My parlay standings are currently 1-2, with a 4-2 game total.

DET. (-) 2.5

The Pistons are hittin' on all cylinders right now.
Their #'s speak for themselves!

KINGS. (+) 7.5

Even though Bibby, Artest, Martin are still out, the odds makers still are givin' me XMAS presents a week later. Am looking for an outright win here in the windy city.

Boston College +10.5 ... Ok, Kansas is a much better team ... At home and on national tv BC won't be laying down for the Jayhawks.

Iowa +17.5 ... I'm looking for Iowa to play a tough slow down game ... Maybe wishful thinking on my part but a bunch of points for Wisky to jump over.

Good luck to all.

Boston College +10.5 Like all the points at home here. Do not see a win but to stay within the number.

Memhis over 162.5 Hoping the Tigers light it up the scoreboard here.

Valparaiso +10
Valparaiso will win on the boards; if Butler misses a shot or two, that might mean something. 10 just seems to be too many in this conference matchup.

DePaul -1.5
DePaul looked good -- really good -- beating Villanova. Providence looked bad -- really bad -- getting hammered by Marquette. These two seem to be going different directions.

Atlanta Hawks/NJ Nets - (Atlanta -3) - Both teams are about equal but NJ plays bad games when they go back to back one night after another

Atlanta Hawks, NJ Nets - Under 187 -- Only because NJ Isn't a running team and I believe the last in the league in ppg. Expect the final score to be somewhere around 94-90

Boston +2 (detroit cannot win this many games without a fade against a good team)
Pepperdine +29 (seem to bet this team every year and they kill me. However, 29 points is alot to give up

Baylor -1.5: Baylor still doesn't appear to be getting the respect they deserve. Even on a neutral court, should be a moderate crowd advantage with the game being in Dallas, and I'm getting the better, deeper team laying a short number.

SE Missouri St. -1.5: Road fav. in the OVC usually spells trouble, but the discrepancy in talent here means I'll make an exception. Really think SEMO has the talent to contend with Austin Peay & co. atop the league, and if that's to become reality, a road game such as this against an inferior EIU squad is a must-win.

Rockets - 9 --Not a big fan with a spread this big in the nba but I just think New york is a bad team, and on the road even worse....

Hornets +8 -- They won the last meeting and they may not win this one, but I dont see them losing by more than 8.

Baylor -1.5....Both teams have impressive records, yet Baylor's wins are over better teams..Team has hung with two first tier teams this season in Notre Dame (W on road) and Wash st. (close loss @ home)..Arkansas is inexperienced and will get ran on in this game..

Utep +7....Teams are equally matched, so Ill take the points on the road.. Bob Knights teams are streaky and this usually nulifies any great home court advantage..Utep will prefer slightly faster paced game and if Raiders try to run with them, favor goes to UTEP..

UCLA -4 vs Cal
UCLA knocked off Stanford pretty easily. I see the same with Cal.

Notre Dame -5.5 vs UCONN
Notre Dame is the best team nobody knows about.

Sacramento +7.5
Just can't see Chicago covering more than 5 points if not losing this game.

New Orleans +8

They always play well against the Suns.

using San Jose ST. -2.5 against the long distance visitors from the islands. Thinking here is the trip will take a toll in the late stages.
using Cal +4 against the bruins. Living dangerously yet I like the situation and the points.

Detroit Pistons Over 182 I like the low over and under for two teams, the Pistons and Celtics that have capable offenses.

Portland Trailblazers -3 1/2 Just a decent team on a hot streak that I'm sure will win on the moneyline so - 3.5 sounds good.I did real well betting on Portland during their winning streak.

511 Utah Jazz +3½ - Portlands hot run is about to end.

01/05/08: USCFOOTBALL33’s Parlay Of The Day

1-1 Yesterday doesn’t get the job done, let’s go 2-0 with NCAAB today!

Jacksonville St. +18
Analysis: On paper this looks like a blowout. I don’t think so! While Austin Peay is #2 in the Ohio Valley Conference Standings, Jacksonville St. hasn’t exactly faired poorly against the conference elite. They lost by 1 point to they #1 team in the conference, SE Missouri St., in their 2nd most recent game and earlier in the season they only lost to the #3 team in the conference, Samford, by 10 points. Is Austin Peay a better ball team? Sure they are. Are they 18 points better than Jacksonville St? Not unless Trenton Hassell has any eligibility remaining! Take Jacksonville St. and the points.

Western Carolina +21.5
Analysis: Yet another case of overestimating the favorite. Davidson is 3-0 in the Southern Conference and Western Carolina is 0-3. However, Western Carolina is averaging an 8 point loss against their first three conference opponents. None of those losses were by more than 10. So the question is: How good do you really think Davidson is? In other words, are they really that much better than their conference competition? Well let’s take a look. They are 5-6 overall and while they have played respectable against teams like Duke, UNC, UCLA, and N.C. State, they still lost! Take Western Carolina and the points.

Valpresso +10 vs. Butler
I think Butler will win, but 10 is a bit too much

Detroitceltics over 182
I love the celts, but i think this should be the chauncy show and should be a shoot out rather than the defenceive battle

louisville -1
worst kentucky team i have ever seen (no pressure performers). pitino better coach and has slightly better players.

michigan +12.5
michigan sucks but purdue isn't much better at times and doesn't really blow people out. big ten start might get michigan motivated to keep it close.

Default 1/5/08 Hoops Parlay Contest. . . 1-2 (4-2) + 6 units

LOUISVILLE CARDINALS 9-4 @ KENTUCKY WILDCATS 6-6
January 5, 4:00 PM | Rupp Arena

As bad as the cards have been this year, the cats are worse. Look for Louisville to get back on track after the tough loss to Cincinnati.
Play LOUISVILLE CARDINALS -1

NEW JERSEY NETS 16-16 @ ATLANTA HAWKS 15-15
January 5, 7:00 PM | Philips Arena

The Nets come into this matchup the hot team, winning four in a row. The hawks have dropped their last 3 and i look for both these streaks to extend tonight. Ill take the points here and pull for a nets victory.
Play NEW JERSEY NETS + 3.5

California Bears ATS
--Looking for a close game between to instate rivals with Californai covering the generous number.

Kentucky ATS
--A bad Kentucky team finds a way to win this game v. L'Ville. A fishy point spread should put all the squares on Louisville.
