Default Basketball Parlay of the Day - Wednesday, 2/21/07

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will do the standings for the month of February at least.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

Tennis Shoe -4.5
I've got to say Ronald Steele looks a lot better, and Alabama is a scary team for those who may face them in the tournament. But they ain't winning at Thompson-Boling. They might cover, but they will not win. This is a Tennessee team that just does not lose at home, and generally the wins aren't close. I don't think Alabama can handle the pressure, especially since no one other than Steele can handle the ball. Crews and Chism aren't going to be scared of Hendrix and Davidson, and Alabama is the worst team in the SEC at defending the 3. It probably isn't going to get any better against a Tennessee team featuring the best shooter in the nation, and with Tennessee coming into this one off an embarassing road loss, this one could get real ugly, real quickly. Go to hell Alabama.

Jokelahoma State +5.5
Who wants to bet on this team right now? Not me, but at this number I have to. Sure, they were owned in Aggieland. Sure, they haven't beaten anyone of substance recently, and recently suffered their first home loss, to a Missouri team that isn't near A&M's level. Sure, they're out of the polls now. Well, you know what? Good. That means I'm going to get a determined effort out of a team with nearly equal talent, playing at home, desperate for a marquee win to impress the selection committee. I'm also getting multiple possessions with the home team in one of the most obnoxious arenas in the game. A&M really struggled against the Sooners on Saturday, and that misleading final serves to give us line value here.

Default One big dog, one big fave...

Was waiting around for LT to post his so I could fade him again, but he's obviously not going to let that happen today

NC State +20 at North Carolina
Banking on Roy Williams not letting his starters go too long once this game gets out of hand and for the Wolfpack to score enough points in garbage time to get inside this number. Tar Heels win it, 81-65.

Florida -19 vs South Carolina
Gators pissed off after Vandy embarrassed them, and take said embarrassment out on the Cocks. FLA takes it, 79-58.

FLORIDA STATE +9: Now we realize that the Seminoles have lost four games in a row SU while Maryland has won three straight, but we feel that has served to give us some excellent line value on the Noles here. Florida State has covered the last three head-to-head meetings between these clubs, winning two of those games outright and taking the Terrapins to overtime here in Maryland before losing 90-88 in the other contest.

GRIZZLIES/WARRIORS UNDER 231.5: Sure neither of these teams plays defense, but this total seems artificially inflated as a result. After all Golden State home games are averaging a combined 211.6 points per game this season, while Grizzlies road games are averaging “only” 200.5 points. Even looking at just the last five games overall for each team, Warrior games are averaging 224.8 points and Memphis games 220.4 points, both STILL safely below this posted total.

Burned a little yesterday by posting against midday totals rather than near closers, but what the heck.

o190.5 @ MIN Don't see Woofies with near the necessary intensity to bury the Bobbers. They struggle mightily with the poor teams at home. Total's low enough so we just need a game that crosses 85 apiece headed toward crunchtime, which should be doable.

u182.5@ATL Spurs are getting serious and buttoning it up, and the Hawks have been nothing other than dreadful at home. Their 3Q last night was one for the ages, and coming to ATL doesn't help -- not much home crypt advantage for them this year. Like most years.

SC +19.5 over Florida
South Carolina has been playing better as of late and I don't see Florida running all over them. I think SC will keep it close just like they did in football this year... SC hates Florida by the way and they love to get up for this rivalry

Texas A&M -4.5 over Ok.St.

Oklahoma St. is just that, OK, A&M is hoping to bump up to a strong 2 seed or possibly a 1 if a tornado sweeps through the top teams... with the conference tourny around the corner they will be extremely focused for this game.

Marshall -5

I live a few blocks from ECU's campus and I know better than anyone that they are the worst team in D-1 basketball this year. Until they prove me wrong (5-12 ATS), take their opponents to cover regardless.

South Alabama -2.5

The Jaguars havent lost consecutive games since December when they went through a stretch of SEC opponents. They lost a tough one against FIU Sunday. I think they bounce back tonight and bash Florida Atlantic.

Good Luck

tulane +7 Like this underdog...I see tulane getting out to a fast start and houston not being able to close the gap

Conn/Rutgers U123 traditionally a low scoreing contest

Georgetown -10.5
Georgetown: 10-0 ATS off BB conference games

St Bonaventure +20
St. Bonaventure: 10-3 ATS as an underdog
Massachusetts: 2-14 ATS as a home favorite of 12.5 or more points

nba
Portland +10 against Lakers
Lakers will win the game but wont cover the spread point. Lakers have struggled in the 4th quarters this past month and never good with the spread point when they are the favor.

Miami +2 1/2 against Houston
Players is healthy and Pat Riley is back.

TAMU -4.5- Talent-wise, this shouldn't be close. Oklahoma St. is one of the more overrated teams in the nation and will get their butts handed to them tonight. 72-59

Virginia -3.5- Um, as far as analysis goes. While Virginia hasn't exactly been dazzling on the road, they will be playing for positioning in the ACC, where they are tied for first. They don't want to lose ground and will roll in this one. 77-65
