Inflate the favorite's line too much and the underdog becomes the trap.

lakers 5-0-1 ATS + MVP + 5point dogs with heavy action going to lakers despite a line moving against the trend. Lets just say, it fits your classic :too good to be true: category.

Nice reply, but the heavy money is on Utah that is why the line has gone up. I'm talking with a gut now from Imperial Palace

Utah 1H -3 (-105) was my only play for tonight, but I'm thinking of playing Utah game side as well. I don't think it's "easy money" but I think Utah at home in a playoff game 3 is the play for 1H and game, regardless of who they're playing. Many statistical models had the Jazz as the best team in the Western conference coming into the playoffs and they've played so poorly in the 1st two games in LA that I think tonight sees an explosive outburst from the Jazz and a spirited defensive effort.

Remember: Utah at home is usually a different animal altogether. And yeah, BOT, I agree that this is a classic "trap" (as was NO/SA last night to a certain extent). Given the public's perception of both teams as they've seen in the first two games and given the big name status of Kobe, the post-Gasol trade love, and the fact that they're the Lakers (playing against a wrongly stereotyped/woefully underrated Utah team) and I see this being a great time to jump on the Jazz. Also worth noting that these are two of the best coaches in the game, much like last night's matchup between NO/SA and COMPLETELY different from the CLE/BOS game 3 we'll have tomorrow.

    LOL.

Um... No. I mean, how could anyone hate on Doc Rivers? Or Mike Brown and that horrific offense he has instilled in Cleveland? Let's just say that the Mike Brown/Doc Rivers matchup is the coaching equivalent of Pam Anderson vs. Carmen Electra in an "acting" contest. They both have fun assets to deploy but no way is either of them going to be trusted to carry a movie/win a game.

here we go with the trap theory once again, I agree with Ryan. Traps are bullshit. Anyone can make a case for a trap every game then. Jazz are good at home but they have been dominated by the Lakers (the better team) this whole season. What was the line supposed to be?

Where is the trap? What the line started at 4 and that is what it should be. How do you give Lakers anymore when they own the Jazz. And the line can't be near moneyline because Jazz are supposed to be so much better at home.

That's a great analogy. I don't know how bad either of those guys are there, really. I mean, one of them won the East last year and the other is about to win the East this year, imho. I guess it goes to show, a coach is only as good as his players.

True that my friend. I mean, you stick Lebron on any team in the East and they're going to the playoffs. Stick Garnett, Pierce, Allen on a team and they're winning the East (even if they barely squeak by a 37 win Atlanta team).

Cleveland in their next game is a perfect example. Based on the lines in Boston, Boston should be the favorite in the next game (it should be about Boston -2) but the oddsmakers are trapping Cleveland by making Cleveland -1. That's a nice example of a trap.

Traps may not exist in the casual way we throw them around on this forum, but to John Q. Public, they are right up there with death and taxes, and they WILL empty casual bankrolls.

Do I think this is a "casual trap"? Yes. Is the line correct? Yes. The "trap" part of this line is an inherent symptom of the line being correct in this case, in that casual bettors will see this line and see +175-180 on LA ML and jump on it rather than taking the 5.5.

why is it a trap? they simply want equal money on both sides.
