Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 3/12/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • One entry per household and IP address.
  • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
  • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

Wyoming -6: Colorado St. went winless in the conference, and doesn't really belong in the tournament.

Duquesne -6 The Dukes just need to make this a track meet and they can blow La Salle out - I'm not sure why they didn't do this in their second meeting, but hopefully lesson learned?

PROVIDENCE/WEST VIRGINIA UNDER 138.5: I wish I bet the 141.5 yesterday. Both teams average in the 70s overall, but it has been a different story inside the Big East, especially on the road. Both teams average a shade over 67 points in Big East road games, which would equate to about 135 points here, and both teams have been prone to long droughts at times. My guess is this game tops out at 132 or so.

BUFFALO +9: I don't think Miami Ohio scores enough points away from home to justify laying this many points. The Redhawks average just 59.9 points on the road, compared to 68.2 points on the road for Buffalo. Sure, the Bulls are weaker defensively, but I simply think Miami O lacks the firepower to take advantage. They only managed 64.0 PPG in the two regular season meetings with Buffalo.

seems like Im great at going 1-1 in this thread...not a good trend...

Marshall -1.5: love them here, thought the line would be 5-7pt range.

EMU -2.5: Good at home and a solid MAC team all year, BSU not good all year, bad road record...

Marquette -10.5, I have not lost despite the points against SHU this year, why stop now, I might as well milk the cow until there is no more

UTEP -10.5, excellent home record, and they are the 'home' team in this one

Denver Nuggets -15.5: Memphis just got stomped by Phoenix last night, and now they are headed to Denver for another beating. Memphis can't hang with Iverson and Anthony.

Golden State -9: Toronto is playing without Bosh again. They just had a tough game against the Lakers last night. I think Golden State can run them down in the first half and win this game by 17+.

Hornets -2

Over 184.5

Simply put, I don't like the way that SA matches up with NO and I think we're headed to a series split. I don't like SA being on the road, PERIOD, at this point (playing 5 games in 7 days). I think NO forces tempo and we get one of those 56-60 point quarters that clinches the over. Then again, we may get a 28 point quarter too...

P.S. Knicks -3 over the Heat is almost too easy to put in a parlay. Now, they'll probably blow it after I said that.

Houston -5: Far better than Atlanta, and on a roll ATS. It's not like the Rockets aren't playing for anything; the chance to win 20 in a row and seeding in the West is more than enough motivation for the Rockets to come out and win big.

Toronto-Golden State O222.5: No reason to think it will go under. The Warriors routinely get close to or exceed 120 points, and they also routinely give up 100. I'd think this total may exceed 240 if Toronto can knock down some threes.

Philadelphia +8 1/2

The Sixers have been actually winning games lately. The Pistons last 3 wins have been against teams with losing records. They have not won any of those games by more than 7 points.

Sixers/Pistons Over 193

If you have a losing record, you've been on the over playing the Pistons in 8 of their last 10 games. Until they played Boston, the Sixers had 97+ points in their last 8 games.

LT, I know the rules and everything so please do not consider this as me changing my play. That said, Spurs win outright tonight. Again, I'll stick with my original parlay because I have to, but the Spurs will roll tonight with a gimpy West.

Houston -5. Rockets are the hottest team going, and Atlanta doesn't seem like the team to stop them.

76ers +8.5. By my unofficial count, Phillie is 11-3 on the road playing three games in four nights, and I think they want to rebound after losing to the other top Eastern power in Boston two nights ago.

Knicks -1.5 - What condition is Miami in right now? I'm not sure but I'll guess worse than a 1.5 home dog to the Knicks.

Seattle/Boston under 203 - I don't see Boston as likely to want to run up their score too much, and I don't see Seattle as likely to be able to run up their score much, so I think this will stay under in a modest-scoring double-digit win for Boston.

Atlanta over 196.5 Both teams are scoring in bunches and this game will go over.

Buffalo over 128.5 This total is too low. Game will be in the 140's.

Seattle/Boston UNDER 203
Boston is a pretty solid defensive team and Seattle played last night... I don't think this game even gets to 200 tonight... Somewhere around 190 or so is what I'm thinkin...

Sacred Heart -2
They have beaten Mt. St. Mary's twice already this year by 8 and 28 points... I know it's always hard to beat a team 3 times in a season, but Sacred Heart definitely is the better team in this one and they should cover...

Warriors -9 Toronto is on back to back road games and once again facing another team that is solid at home.

Sea/Bos U 203 Boston still playing for home court in the playoffs and play solid defense that will limit a Sonics team that played last night.
