Default Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Friday, 3/7/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Saturday (Mar 1) we will commence with the March Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

    1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

    3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a seperate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per household and IP address.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.
    • Residents outside the Continental US may be awarded the cash value prize instead of the monitor.

St. Peter's +2.5 St. Peter's has covered both of the previous meetings, they attacked in both games and Manhattan wasn't disciplined enough to keep them off the free throw line.

CHI-BOS U196.5: Not sure why this is so high. Boston will put the lockdown on Chicago and I'd be surprised if the game topped 186, let alone 196.

Detroit -9: They're 18 points better, nevermind nine. They don't always show up, and allow awful teams to backdoor cover, but I guess I'll take my chances that they do.

Golden State @ Miami Over 221: Golden State has been clicking offensively and have scored triple digits in each game since January 9th when they scored 91. Miami's defense is not good, they allow triple digits pretty easily. I'm also hoping that Miami can shoot a decent percentage because they have the capabilities to run and score with the number of possessions they'll get with Marion, Davis, and Wade. 122-108 Golden State.

Cornell -6: Cornell beat Penn by 13 a month ago. Cornell has won their last 14 games, and they are 12-0 in the Conference. They average 76.7 ppg, and give up 67.4 ppg. Penn is the opposite, they score 67.0 ppg and allow 75.0 ppg. I'll take Cornell to win by double digits. 85-71 Cornell.

They really need to win this one and probably make atleast the finals of the valley tournament to obtain an at-large bid... Missouri State is dreadful away from their home gym... I like the Redbirds on a neutral floor...

    Charlotte Bobcats PK
Line seems a few points off to me... The Hawks are not a good road team at all and the Bobcats seem to defend their home floor fairly well... I'll take the home team in this pick em situation!

I can almost see the top.... Have a few solid plays tonight

Utah +5.5 Utah on the road isn't usually a good thing, however Utah has been playing well lately and well Phoenix is not. Phoenix is 11 and 18 ATS in home games , 5 and 8 ATS in the 2nd half and a horrible 0 and 3 as a home fav between 3.5 and 6. I think Utah wins this game outright by 5.

Golden State -4.5 Road Favourites aren't usually a good choice, but home court means nothing in Miami where they are a horrible 8 21 ATS. I just can't see Miami covering this one they are playing just sooo bad. I realize this is a bit of a gamble, but as bad as the Rap's looked at trip to Miami set them right. I see the same kind of blowout here. Look for GS to win by 10+

Jazz +5.5 pts: Jazz are bad on the road, but I don't like the way PHX has played the last 7-8 games. Mind boggling how a Jerry Sloan coached team can look so bad and commit so many TO's on the road. Coming down the stretch now so Jerry will have his boys playing disciplined ball tonight. Jazz may even win this outright.

Spurs +2: Spurs are on fire right now. With Parker back the Spurs look primed for another title run. The Nugs are way too inconsistent. Like the champs in this game and like the Jazz, the Spurs may win this outright.

Delaware -1 over Drexel: Delaware 6-1 ATS vs Drexel over last 3 years: Drexel offensively challenged in road or neutral court games: Delaware in past has posted good ATS 5-1 in neutral court games and tournament games

Denver -2--- Spurs on second half of back-to-back, though rested, are a fade for me, especially in the thin air of Denver.

Chi-Bos Under 196.5--- I just got this at 198.5 at BetJam. Something isn't right here. Still, I think Boston controls the pace enough here to keep this in the low 190's.

Illinois St -2.5 Missouri St played yesterday. Ill St won both meetings this year. Miss St is 2-10 ATS and 1-11 SU as an underdog and 9-10 against conference opponents.

Denver -2 Spurs played yesterday while the Nuggets are rested. Denver is solid at home and need this win badly as they are still on the outside of the playoffs looking in despite a .600 record.

CITADEL/COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON UNDER 139: I bet this Under at 136.5 in real life, so I feel compelled to play it at this inflated contest line. The Under is 7-2 in the last nine head-to-head meetings, and the two match-ups this year produced 111 and 115 points respectively. Citadel averages just 59.5 points per game away from home on 39.0 percent shooting, so they lack the firepower to take advantage of Charleston's shaky defense. Look for a replay of the two regular season meetings.

LOYOLA-CHICAGO +4.5: Illonois-Chicago won both regular season meetings, but Loyola is currently on a 10-3-1 ATS run, and they already posted one upset in this tournament by winning on the road at Wisconsin-Milkwaukee in the first round. Both meetings were tight this year, with UIC winning by five points in one game and by a misleading 10 points in overtime in the other. Look for Loyola to make up the diifference in their current fine form, with an outright upset a real possibility.

    Charleston under 139

Citadel will be lucky to score 50 points.

    Charleston -14.5

Charleston will blow by them by at least 20 points. Charleston is playing very well lately.

Wizzards/Rapptors Over 192 1/2 -- Every game this year has been over this number and the last two have been over 200.

Golden State - 4 1/2 - minus the loss on the 5th Golden State has looked good. Miami is bad and I think this is a blowout tonight.....

Miami is simply terrible. I can see this one getting blown open early and Wade going to the bench.

The Spurs went over last night against Indy, no reason Denver shouldnt push them over as well.

Charlotte pick'em. Atlanta has been terrible playing three games in four nights. Don't know what I'm missing in the line movement.

Denver -2. Don't like the travel demands of San Antonio, going into a tough place to play.

Brown/Harvard under 136 - Brown plays pretty tough D and Harvard will probably be subdued in general here due to their recruiting issues. I am afraid of OT, but I think it will stay under in regulation.

Detroit/Knicks over 190 - Detroit is off of a poor offensive outing and they will likely be offensive-minded tonight. The Knicks probably won't try to clamp down on D too much on their end, so I think this one will go over.
