After 3 the score was Kobe 62 and Dallas 61. This year you have to defend Kobe well to hold him to 30 and that's with an alarming shortage of offensive options around him.
Seems like a perfect time to throw it out...
If the Lakers make the playoffs, Kobe gets the MVP.

As an admitted Kobe-hater, I would have to agree. He has started to trust his teammates and is integrating them into the offense, but is obviously still capable of putting up huge point totals. If they continue this resurgence, either he wins the MVP, Phil Jackson wins the COY, or both.

Everyone keeps saying "See, he scored 62, stop hating."
But what the hell does that mean? Nobody ever says he's a bad player. They say he's a rapist or a bad team player. Why does scoring 62 change that assessment?
Personally, I don't care one way or the other about him, but a lack of talent is obviously not his problem. I don't think anyone ever says that.

perhaps there are some jaded individuals that can no longer comprehend the magnitude of putting up 62 in 3 quarters and then being good enough to say, "I don't need to prove anything by being in for the fourth."
most people hate on kobe precisely because of his greatness. they only use the rape case and team player issues as excuses to continue hating.
to put it simply, i never cared much for mj but eventually i was forced to admit he's the greatest i've ever seen. so i say "stop hating" for exactly the same reason. kobe is demonstrating his greatness on the court and forcing you to acknowledge his greatness outside of anything that may cause you to dislike him.

great game by kobe and most importantly he led them to a win
no way in hell this game makes him the favorite for the mvp cause it's to close to call and WAY to early to call
don't matter what he does, if the lakers don't make the playoffs he will not get the mvp no matter what and really he shouldn't or anyone else
if houston can ever get healthy then LA, HOU, Denver, and GSW will all be fighting for the last 2 playoff spots

i have to think he'll be coming down to earth tomorrow, although it certainly won't be a result of the defense against him. this is the game before the big christmas affair and orlando can be a difficult opponent to get very excited about especially in Orlando. i speculate we'll see a poor shooting night from kobe with his point total being in the 20s.
