Because in basketball you get to shoot a free-throw (or two). In college basketball you get to shoot a free-throw and you also get possession of the ball. In both cases, this can change the momentum of the game and demoralize the offending team. Not to mention the fact that someone (coach or player) can be ejected.
In baseball the worst that can happen is you get kicked out. Big deal.
