I really like that pick chi. I have targeted this play since thursday. I had bobcats last night and of course we both had nuggets. Now public will think Nuggets lost last night and get back to winning ways. I see it like this- Atlanta got pumped last night while nuggets are starting to feel the effects of missing JR SMith and go down again tonite. Atlanta is always a tough out at home for west teams. Lets get the cash.

I see it pretty much the same way. The books are pulling the same trick they did yesterday with the Nuggets and the public is pounding them once again. Didnt fall for that one yesterday, not falling for it today. Lets get paid!!!

Wow how does Las Vegas know this shit so good? I tailed you and won. thanks

Really I want an answer to my question they have some lines that make you scratch your head and sure enough the team you don't expect to win, win. How do they know to manipulate the lines?

I echo your thoughts. Since I suck at figuring this out, I should quit while ahead .

Hey Marbd to answer your Question. I believe Vegas picks a line they think will lure people into a certain wager. Then the officials and sometimes the players adjust the points around those numbers. If you know what I mean.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think other people feel the same. I think CHI understands this.
    What do you think CHI?

For Sunday, we have Washington +1 against Pheonix? It seems Pheonix should be -6. I think this is the type of play ChiTown would pick Washington. Am I right ChiTown? Maybe I'm all wrong.

This is a great question! Now I dont have all the answers, but I will take an attempt at answering it based on what I think. First we must realize that as much as we think we might know about a player, team, game or situation, the Linesmaker knows an infinate amount more about it. The people setting the line have access to people in the sportsworld that average Joe does not. Whether that be a player or coach giving information about their team, somebody who works closely with a team/player/league or whoever else might have information the public does not. They also have knowledge about how a team practiced and spent their time leading up to a game. This is one aspect I believe gives them a huge edge against the general betting public.

The second thing I believe gives them an edge is the statisics and trends the books must keep. They have decades of results to use to their advantage. For example...Lets say the sportsbook knows that over the last 30 years that a team playing its 4th road game in 5 days has only won that 4th game 10% of the time(completly made up trend). Knowing that trend puts them way ahead of the public. The linesmaker knows the probablity of pretty much every scenario, while we know the probability of nothing!

Pair the access to players/coaches and others that have inside information with the stats and trends the linesmaker tracks and you can see why the Sportsbooks have such a huge advantage.

I definetly agree that on certain games the sportsbooks try to lure betters into taking a certain side so that they can profit when the other side covers. I do believe that on some level of game fixing takes place, but by who and on what level I obviously dont know. I tend to think that ideas of idividual players working with the league or sportsbooks to affect outcomes of games is very far fetched. There are simply too many players in all the different sports for them to keep that under wraps.

ChiTown, sorry to nitpick but it would be better if you dont use dashes infront of $won in your signature.

We are going with a second play today, even with the loss earlier. I know this goes against what I have earlier said, but I really like this game and think its strong enough for a 2nd bet. So here we go...

    2nd bet

    OKC +6

    $457.44

I have recently found your thread and found it amazing. When picking this game with orlando and okc. What from your point of view sticks out that makes this game a bet.

I'm liking New orleans to cover tonight. Over 77% on lakers yet the lines moves down for them.

I just recieved a PM from INeed2Pee, who made me realize something I would like to address. I have been trying to post plays a couple hours before game time, but sometimes this will just not be the case...as was the case today with our 2nd bet. I would like to get a way to have the plays texted to those who would like that, but the only way I can think of this is via tweet tweet. Would anybody be interested in recieving the plays immeadiatly via text and if so what suggestions do you have?

Two main things went into this pick. First the line seemed to be very low to me...I would have thought that the Magic would have been around -8.5 favorites. The second part was the concencous numbers, more people betting Orlando then OKC. The book offered a soft line for the magic and the public bet it hard, which spells diaster for them, but $$$ for us!!!

They can, but I'm not sure how quickly the emails get sent out. Plus not everybody can access email via their mobile device.
