Default Washington Wizards = Sleeping Giant

It probably went under the radar for most because of the Shaq and Carter trades, but the Wizards quietly aquired Mike Miller and Randy Foye from Minnesota for the 5th pick in the draft last week. They also dumped some salary getting rid of Etan Thomas and a couple other end of the bench guys.

The Wizards have what should be a healthy Gilbert Arenas coming back after not playing really at all last season. You add Foye and Miller to that backcourt as well now. DeShuan Stevenson was hurt most of the year, he'll be back for depth. Of course there is still Jamison and Butler to deal with. Brendan Haywood returns to provide a presence in the middle after missing the entire season last year. You've got a developing Javale McGee for depth at center. Not to mention Flip Saunders is the new coach. They still need one more big body to provide some productive minutes at the 4, but they should be able to pick someone up for that role.

I don't know what the future price is on Washington winning the East, but I've got a feeling this team is going to blow up this season. I really don't know how anyone is going to stop them from scoring basically at will. If everyone is healthy, how do you gaurd them?? Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Miller, Foye....maybe Blatche if he can develop consistency....Nick Young off the bench...Stevenson.... matchup nightmares and scoring threats everywhere you look.

The question mark will be what it always is with this team - can they defend at all? I know it's a big IF, but if they can commit to playing some defense for once this team is as talented as any the league and can go as far as that commitment takes them in my opinion. Should be a fun team to watch at the very least. As a Wizards fan I haven't been this excited about an NBA season in.....well.... forever.

All those players together equal no defense. Need that in the playoffs. But they will be another great home team to bet on. And they will cash some OVER tickets for us.

And Flip Saunders will try to get them to play defense, but by the 10th game he will realize you can't teach old dogs new tricks.

They have some quality individual defenders in Jamison, Butler, and sometimes Haywood. However, they have no understanding of team defense.

They do not have one forward or center who is the least bit of a presence inside. Haywood? McGee? Come on, those guys are jokes.

Haywood is a presence. I never thought I'd say that about Brenda, but she has established herself as presence. McGee is a colt. He's a legit 7' jumping jack. Put 20lbs of beef on him and he'll be a presence as well. These guys don't need to scrore...at all. The Wizards probably need as little offense from the post as any team in the NBA.... and that's what they'll likely get. Just occupy the middle, alter some shots, collect some garbage points, and box out. Haywood can definitely do that. McGee might be able to. They'll add a body ala Kurt Thomas. This team will be a force next year. Believe that.

The big question is can Gilbert make it thru a season?

They will make another trade... bank on it... they now have pieces to move...

Arenas will be back, but I doubt he will be back as Agent O. That guy had that one really good year if I remember correctly. Jamison is good but undersized at the PF, a position he plays most of the time

    Magic,Cleveland,Boston=69% wins
all the other teams in the east have a chance to make play offs with 49% wins.
why dont we just add D-league to the east.

east is a joke after top 3 - teams below .500 making playoffs in any sport is sad

detroit is gonna be good... as will washington.. maybe wash for the 5th seed actually... det for 6th.. det has alot of good pieces, altho lacking a star... and washington will have their star pg, surrounded by those forwards butler and jamison, plus good guard depth..

washington is gonna surprise ALOT of people... they still should've dealt butler in a deal for am'are tho..butler/foye/miller or am'are? i think am'are would've been better to balance their lineup..
