Interest in a youtube series on how to bet the ponies?
Hey everyone,
Been playing the ponies seriously for about 4 years now and am a bit of a scholar of the game. Have read a few books by some great cappers as well.
To the regular/intermediate horseplayer, nothing I have to offer is going to teach you much.
But to the beginner/recreational player I think I have a lot to offer. I can definitely teach the ropes on what to look for in the DRF, and what effects speeds, pace, track biases, trainers, pedigrees, etc. have on races.
I've been tossing around the idea in my head to do a 5 to 10 part mini-series on youtube devoted strictly to handicapping ponies. If I recorded something like this, would there be much interest in it?
If a bunch of you say you'd check it out, I'll definitely put it together. If it seems useless/stupid to you, thats fair too.
Just wanted to gauge interest before I made a decision.
Thanks fellas

I like the idea. It would be better posting it at a horse forum. You would probably get more views.

Great idea. A great start to horse race discussion. If you like we can help you start your own page for the series. I will PM you link for that on Monday.

Thanks Bill! I agree itd be great for discussions. I'd love to hear which methods people around here use most frequently and what works for them etc etc. It could be fun!

JJ and Richkas have huge differences of opinions on the profitability of betting
the horsies.
I am neutral on the subject. Dammit, can you beat the ponies?
Thats my research for the week.

Great Idea I thought of something like that but dont have a cam and HOL is kicking my arse now so it wouldn't do any good.
SlickFazzer I know someone who has started 2 buisnesses with $ won from wagering on horses and they have made a shit load of $ from the ponies. They have a big bankroll and play a lot of supers and picks.

Yep you got it bby it definitely helps to have a huge bankroll to play superfectas and pick 6s with multiple combinations for big payouts.
Slick, horse racing, just like sports betting, is beatable... but requires a LOT of work.
Studying past performances and trends, much like studying stats and trends in sports, can allow you to make really good educated guesses about who will win. As such you will be better off than those picking at random, but not necessarily a winning player in the long run.
However, if you are willing to go to your local track at the crack of dawn and watch horses train and make personal notes about personal observations that the DRF misses, if you are willing to go the extra mile you can turn profit long run. Like sports betting, you have to do a ton of homework that the betting public isn't willing to do to get the edge.
My tutorial wouldn't be about guaranteeing any winners or long term profit, you have to go the extra mile yourself to earn those. It would just be enough information to turn you into a player that knew what to look for, could map out how the race "should go" in your head, and find the right horses with the right odds and bet them accordingly. Hitting a $132 trifecta on a $16 wager feels *SO* good, especially when you actually picked the horses by something other then name, color, or number!

I always like to see anyone try & teach, help, or explain this game to anyone willing to listen.
I believe it's good for the game & the participants.
However with that being said, with all the traditional work your willing to input for a Winner!,
I am happy to just sit back & let all those opinions end up all in one place!
That's in the Pools!
So I will do what I do ... I just handicap the Handicappers!
If you do set this up I will be happy to help out & contribute my thoughts & opinions about the Tote & pools to some degree!
Best of Luck always Kingsfan!

Hey Ultimate Selector, what was your take on what happened with Big Brown? The jockey said he himself wasn't at any fault and that it was all on how the horse started out slipping somewhat from the gate, he said he wanted to start with a strong gallop from the beginning, and that the horse apparently got gassed trying to fight for better position due to the lame start.

All I can say is this ...
It was a Stunning defeat! & one of the Bigger Upsets in horse racing in my opinion! My take is he was just flat & did not seem interested in running his best when he needed it. I don't see any fault on anyones behalf except this one point.
Why change anything leading up to the race? I mean do the exact same thing as to what got you there in the first place. ie: Training, Meds ect ... That I think was the biggest difference IMHO!
