you will end up paying blacksmiths, vets, feed places, bill after bill and if you're lucky purses will cover about 50% of you're bills. never mind the initial investment it is the day to day cost of owning a steed that will discourage you. and if it gets minor injury and can't race you still have the bills to pay. don't do it. just go to track or otb and throw the favorite out and bet.

stillings actually with dane snyder training...missed show by a nose on wednesday from the 7 hole in a 10k race: gapped at the gate, parked on the outside the whole time, had a breaker right next to him yet still went 4 wide in the stretch and closed willingly. in again next week....

As long as you aren't looking to make money, it is a small investment that will give you an experience that you won't forget. At that level, the coin will disappear quickly but consider it entertainment. If any return comes along, it's a bonus.

I have never owned but I had a few friends that did. The bottom line is that they didn't make any money owning, but they had an awful lot of fun. It was money they could afford to "lose" and it was worth every penny to them.
BOL.

you must be getting something out of it....i mean the horse ownership-not pissin on peoples wheaties
* this time please reply/post with one thing, just one thing positive you've taken from "10 years race horse ownership"(im starting to have my doubts you know...)

I`ve owned S-breds for the better part of 15 years. Made money every year. The absolute key to making money is being involved with one of the top trainers around. 20% of the trainers make 75% of the money. I was fortunate enough when i started out to be involved with money making horses even with a `lesser trainer`. It was through that experience, as lucky and fortunate as it was, that i learned the only way to invest is to invest with the best. If you don`t do that it makes the game very difficult.

We used to syndicate them, we accually did ok.....we do not own any horses now.....but did turn a profit in the business.
We are looking to mabye buy another horse b.c of slots at racetracks...if you know what your doing since the purses are high now...you can make a profit....but it is easy to lose alot.
We used to tell our investors in the business...the best way to make a small fortune in the horse business it to start with a large one.

to be an owner or even a part owner of a horse is a wonderful thing. just think of the perks that come with having an ownership.

it does make it a bit more exciting to say the least. he pulled his weight last month + some so ill actually be getting a check this month. 25% of what i bought in for aint bad (for a months return on 1k) although i do realize the winter will soon be upon us and those beasts still gotta eat/train. should tell them to keep it but i have my eye on these flyers tickets see....
my boy's in on friday at the meadows for his first race this month. he was an AE last week, which sucked because there were no scratches. he's up against some stiff competition so im not getting my hopes up. i wish he'd ship to pocono/chester so i could actually see him trot but @ 10% ownership my opinion means jack squat.

I need to fly to Saint Somewhere
|
i just bought a 5 percent share of a horse that will be racing first part of year. I had a chance to buy 2 and turn down the other and he won his first race last sunday at hollywood for a purse of 42k so i missed that one. he looked good to, but i am happy with mine. Hes located near here in ocala which is cool because i get to take my son to see him and feed him carrots and such. It is worth every penny even if he doesn't do well

well i must admit grekos was right. the first month of ownership i ended up owing $. a whole $16
2nd month i ended up pocketing $173. 3rd month im still waiting on but he won the 2 races he entered in october w/ both purses $10,400 ea. trainer/stable/shoeing/driver/lasix/supplies averages about $1900/month so needless to say ill be cashing another check for octobers efforts
steped up to 20k claimers in november. he took 3rd last week in a $11,900 purse race (12%)
and is back in on tuesday staying in 20k company. another 2nd this month and i figure he'll pay me back what i got in for(1k). if he goes lame i can walk away w/o a scratch
and he's a real closer to boot....love that

carparts, thanks for the kind words.
id also like to add: i bought into him as a 10k claimer and he'd been holding his own in the 15k claiming company. after he took the 2 consecutive wins at the 15k level he stepped up to 20k claiming. even though an empty trailer going home would mean 2x my initial investment im hoping no one is interested in my trotter for a lil while yet. although i do have my eye on a few 2 year olds with some pretty powerful parents
