Paper trade both for a couple of weeks and see where you pick more winners.

Personally I much prefer thoroughbred. But only non-maiden races between 6f and one mile where there are no first time starters and where the track is not sloppy or muddy ... (sounds like it cuts out a lot of races .. but there are still lots left to go for.. and in my opinion it cuts out a lot of the what-if races)

Los Alamitos just increased the takeout on quarterhorses FWIW

"The takeout will increase from 15.63 percent for win, place, and show bets to 17.63 percent, and from 20.88 percent to 22.88 percent for all exotic wagers."

hmmmmm, is there somewhere to see the takeout from all tracks. I guess I always assumed they were the same.

I emailed Los Alamitos and told them I won't be betting on there races any longer due to the increased takeout.

Their $5,000 claiming throughbred races have higher purses than $10,000 claimers at Santa Anita.

They have enough money to raise their purses but still feel the need to increase the takeout 2% higher than any other racetrack in California.

I'LL PASS ON BETTING AT LOS ALAMITOS AND SO SHOULD EVERY SINGLE HORSE BETTOR.

i can't agree anymore with you.. a 2% takeout is a joke especially when they're losing handle by the second..

Can't blame you, Andy. Takeouts are high enough everywhere without needing further increases. Los Alamitos is one of those tracks where they know late night degenerates are watching on, playing the Pick 4's and such. They know they will get action anyway so they just screw people out of a few more dollars.
