Thumbs down Fairmount Park to only have 3 live racing days.

For anyone interested in what is going on with Fairmount Park in the St. Louis Metro area they are only going to have three racing days in 2010. I am afraid they are going to close the track here soon as a result of this.

You can blame your democratic party loving labor unions for the demise of Fairmount Park.

As bad as the entire economy is, its even worse for the horse racing industry with pari-mutuel handles dropping across the country.

With all of this going on, the union that controls the employees at Fairmount Park refused to accept an offer from the track and now these employees are all out of a job with the track on the brink of collapse.

As I have always said, labor unions are an absolute cancer to any business.

Because of an unresolved labor dispute, Fairmount Park has been stripped of virtually all of its live racing dates for this year.
The Illinois Racing Board decided Tuesday night that the Collinsville racetrack will have only three days of live racing in 2010 - on April 27, April 30 and May 1.
The Racing Board made the decision after the union representing six state employees working at Fairmount turned down the latest offer from the track.
In September, the racing board awarded Fairmount 52 racing dates if it could reach an agreement with its employees.

Now the politicans got involved and they got their 52 race dates back as of Monday. The board gets to vote on it tonight at their meeting. Here is the story to this.http://www.ksdk.com/sports/story.asp...194542&catid=6

This is good news for the local area there. I live close to there and they employ an awful lot of folks. It would have really hurt the economy in that town no doubt.
