Default Vegas Stanley Cup Odds

I'm not sure how many of you live in the valley, have someone that can place a bet for you, or will be coming here any time soon but here's a list of the best Stanley Cup odds you can find in the city as of today, (9/10).

Chicago was a must at those odds.

Calgary might be worth a look.

Calgary would be good, but I would stay away from Chicago, young teams with limited playoffs experience have almost no shot at going deep into the playoffs.

Look at Washington and Montreal this year, and Pittsburgh last year.

There's an old saying...you have to learn how to lose before you can learn how to win.

I only hope to get to the playoffs, (or to the second round), then look to hedge.

Chicago will be much improved this season. I'll take a nibble at 40/1

Three of the four teams listed at 100-1 wouldn't have any value at 1000-1! The lone exception to that might be Atlanta.

Phoenix made some good additions and had another good draft this year. They are a decent young team and have even more young talent on the way. Agreed they are nowhere close to value at 100-1, but they will very likely have a better season then the Thrashers.

I'd give Vancouver a small look... with Luongo in net, anything can happen if they sneak into the playoffs.

It's possible, but if they don't get any scoring back they will never get there. Shame is that they have the talent, but just go through horrible spans of not scoring

Wagering on hockey futures isn't neccesarily betting who can win the cup. At 100/1 all they need to do is get in the playoffs for you to hedge a profit.

Last year I had Washington, (200/1), Boston, (100/1) and Philadelphia, (100/1) in the east alone. All made the playoffs, none won a cup, (or even got to the finals), but I locked in a profit regardless.

Three seasons ago I had Carolina at 100/1 and you know the end of that story.

All this being said, I'm with you. I don't think any of the 4 teams listed at 100/1 this year have much of a chance to make the post season. (Although I did consider Phoenix.)

I don't think I would take a chance with the Flames at this price. The reason I say that is because Keenen teams will not get a high seed in the playoffs, and will most likely be playing on the road in almost every round they advance in.

If they had upgraded their goal tending in the off-season I would have liked their chances a bit more.

You can only ride your old horses (Osgood, Hasek) so far!

Hasek started to show his age late in the season, Osgood is also on the down-side of his career.

Hasek retired and they have Conklin. What else do you want?

Conklin?

He's not a number 1 goalie.

That is why he is a back up. Osgood has the best save % in the league last season. What else can you ask for?

I'd like to say the Sens at 25-1, but they need a better #1 goalie, along with more scoring depth. A good top line, that's for sure (Alfredsson, Heatley and Spezza...)

So how does a backup goalie improve the teams goaltending?

Would Osgoods save percentage have been that good if he played on the Kings?
Save percentage is misleading. Osgood isn't even a top 10 goalie in this league on any other team.

Osgood is getting too old to duplicate his better performances, Osgood will not help this team this year.

They will need better goaltending or they will not repeat.

Simple.

I'd bet the Senators at 25-1 for sure. If THEY could get a good goalie it would improve their chances as well.

Certainly he is not on the Kings and he is a top 10 goalie for sure. Conklin only assures Osgood doesn't play every game. Both at least average goalies, in which that is all they need because they dominate every where else.

They DID dominate everwhere else, however I'm a little skeptical that they can be as dominant this year, they weren't a young team and the year following a big season tends to be a letdown.

I do know I already like them in their season opener, against the Leafs. But thats an easy one.

Av age is 29

They didn't lose anyone of importance and only added another All-Star.

It's still tough to repeat, but it will all sort itself out in the next few months.

I know you're a fan and want them to win another cup but as a gambler I'm more interested in how I can take advantage of them one way or another.

We will know for sure this winter, I'm predicting they (Detroit) wont make it to the semis this year.

The "All-star" they signed is selfish & soft, I'm no fan of Hossa.

I will fade each and every team that plays them. Detroit loses 20 or so out of 82, I win roughly 75%.

You can't rely on them winning 75% THIS SEASON, and they WILL be the betting favourite, likely heavily favoured because of last season, so betting them early gives you no advantage.

Other than game one against Toronto, I'll be fading them early.
Betting against them will get big odds.

good luck you will need it.

every year, detroit gets close to 110 pts and they barely show a profit in gambling.. you lay -280 alot and sometimes even -340 at home.. you will have to win close to 75% to show a very small profit.. and don't forget, DET is a very big market team, and the bettors all love to bet DET.. which will make the books make DET even a higher price for the public, since they are a big public team.. betting detroit this is for squares only who dont mind laying -320 at home and -200 on the road.. DET is a sucker bet.. if god forbid this team this year only gets 97 pts.. you will take a beating. especially now that they are stanley cup champs, their prices will be even higher for the public.

beware..

Lidstrom a year older, Osgood hasn't been good in years. Hossa was a good addition obviously, but I just don't know if he is a big time impact player on that team. There is only so much ice time to go around.
