    Default NHL 1st Period Plays

    (0-0 YTD)

Finally have my NHL database built and up to date, so hopefully I can find some angles of value

San Jose @ Winnipeg (8:30PM ET)
Both teams are around .500 for over/under 1.5 in the first period this year (SJ is 19-20 and WPG is 22-20)
San Jose has gone under 13 of their 16 road games this season and WPG has gone under at home 3 games in a row at home (and 6 of their last 10 overall)

$105 to win $100 at Pinnacle on the first period UNDER 1.5

Keep up the good work. I enjoy the 1st period plays over and done with quick, and a chance to earn more at the intermission

I won't get into too much commentary after a win or loss since I strongly believe that emotion is one of the big factors that prevents people from betting disciplined (they start second guessing themselves, chasing etc). With that being said, the NHL must have tweaked the interpretation of the "kicking motion" rule as the disallowed goal in the 1st period yesterday would have been called a goal as recently as last season imo. Either way, there were more than enough chances and the numbers were there, that I'd make the same bet every time the situation came up.

I looked at San Jose under 1.5 yesterday, as their first period road under has been pretty damn impressive so far this year. But with Columbus being one of the few solid "over" teams in the first period, I stayed away. Similar with the Leafs/Rangers. I was looking at the 1st period over as Toronto went into the game 6 over and 1 under in game 2 of back-to-backs, but the Rangers went into the game 28-13 Under in the first period this year, so again, I stayed off the game as I kind of had the 2 wash out.

With all that being said, 10 of the 11 games yesterday went under in the first period - so I'm going to take a look at previous Saturday and big card days to see if there's anything that jumps off the page numbers wise.

    (2-1 YTD +$97)

    01/15
7:00pm ET San Jose @ Chicago
Sharks have gone under 1.5 in the first period in 15 of their 18 road games (83.3%)
Chicago has gone under 1.5 in the first period in 60% of their home games (15-10) & 7 of their last 10 at home.
Both previous meetings this year (Nov 23 & Dec 11) went under 1.5 in the first period. (0-0 and 1-0)

$102 to win $100 at Pinnacle on the first period UNDER 1.5 goals

LOL! I love these picks! Yesterday was a lame loss though, I thought we nailed it and got up to take a leak with 2 minutes left in the period, I came back, looked at the score and nearly soiled my trousers!

I am looking forward to the next pick, I really appreciate the effort you put in!

Couple games that I won't bet because of the chalk or the opposing team doesn't matchup for numbers, but if you're looking for some trends.

NY Rangers have gone under 1.5 in 29 of their 43 games overall and 15 of their 19 at home.
LA Kings have gone under 1.5 in 7 of their last 10 on the road, and 14 of their 20 roads games so far this year.

I think your plays are the best due to the schedule and chalk tonight.

Hope so. The SJ/Chi loss was a bit a burn - but the season is filled with those. So while I'm hoping for 3-0 tonight, I won't go awol if the picks go 0-3.

Congrats. Friend of mine who follows these was chasing some losses and threw way more than he should have on a 3 team parlay at 365. Risky to bet like that, but once in a while it happens for the good.

    Any plays today, muldoon?

I personally like MTL-BUF under 1.5 for the 1st period. Every time we face Buffalo, it's always a low scoring affair. Both times we faced them this year, 0 goals have been scored in the 1st period.

First game back after the all-star break always seems to produce weird results, so I've put together some trends, but won't be betting these (outside of a couple small parlays with a few of these)

(First number is Over, second is Under)

    NY Rangers / NJ Devils
Devils are 0-5 last 5 and 2-8 last 10 overall.
    Devils at home ate 7-17 at home, 0-3 last 3, 0-5 last 5 and 3-7 last 10
    Rangers are 14-33 on the year, 0-3 last 3, 1-4 last 5 and 3-7 last 10 overall.
Rangers are 10-15 on the road
Previous meeting (Dec 20) went under 1.5 in the first period
Numbers say: Take Under 1.5 in the first period

    Ottawa / Boston
Senators are 23-29 on the season, and 0-3 their last 3 overall.
Senators are 3-7 last 10 on the road
Boston is 1-4 last 7 and 3-7 last 10 overall.
Numbers say: Take Under 1.5 in the first period

    NY Islanders / Carolina
    Islanders are 0-3 last 3, 0-5 last 5, and 2-8 last 10 overall
Islanders are 9-13 on the road this year, 0-3 last 3, 1-4 last 5 and 3-7 last 10 on the road
Carolina is 9-18 at home this year & 1-4 last 5 at home
Numbers say: Take Under 1.5 in the first period

    Washington / Tampa
Washington is 2-1 Last 3 and 3-2 last 5 on the road
Tampa is 6-4 last 10 overall.
Tampa is 4-1 last 5 and 9-1 last 10 at home.
Both previous games this season have gone over in the first period
Numbers say: Take Over 1.5 in the first period

    Columbus / San Jose
Columbus is 17-8 on the road
San Jose is 17-8 at home
Numbers say: Take Over 1.5 in the first period

Buffalo has been amazing on the road for betting the under (7-18). Both games this year were goose eggs in the first period.

Only reason I stayed off, was Montreal is on a 5-0 over run in the first period tonight.

Good luck if you bet it though - go 0-0!
