    Default Suggestion for sbr contests?

Perhaps a minimum of 200 posts to take part in sbr contests...after about 10 seconds of looking people up i found 3 people with 0 posts in the 256 people contest. So there clearly ghosts and just ruins the competitiveness of the 256 tournament.

    Hi B1GERC828,

Good post. SBR rewards its loyal members in many ways, guys that have been around longer have been given greater comps for the SBR Bash, and always will.

As for contests, I don't like the idea of excluding entries based on how long someones been a member or based on their number of posts. There's a lot of new users that may be overwhelmed to dive in with both feet and just want to fire out a post or two here and there that may not have eclipsed the post tallies others have. These people often times will win some $ and get used to the climate here before becoming a full fledged regular.

how do "ghosts" ruin the competitiveness in these tournies? So what if they don't post?

One of the guys I faced in the tournament before hasn't posted again after he lost in the tournament. I am fearing for his ghost health.

Your right and its all great points. But just part of me feels like...a guy with 4 posts that became a member the day you announced the tournament shouldnt be able to win. But then again your right when someone has only like 50 posts but has been a member for a couple months and posts rarely because their not into the whole forum/posting situation should be able to win and thats fine. Just a weird situation for it i guess. Great tourny though, looking forward to it tomorro!

It should be one of two things. Either a substantial post requirement, or a join date requirement. You could avoid ghosts/greedy fukks entirely if you used any of these. I don't really care either way, but it seems strange to try and promote members to stay loyal to the site by pissing off members who are currently logging in regularly (as proven by their post numbers or join date). Just throwing it out there.

100 posts or 1-3 months of SBR membership would suffice.

I guess I'm okay either way. If you want to reduce my competition, that benefits me.

I don't actually care if people post though. I told my brother about these contests - because I like my brother and think he could have fun with them - and I went out of my way to recommend he not get involved with the forum. I believe so far he has followed that advice.

An absence of posts does not necessarily mean something fishy is going on. My brother is just a normal dude enjoying the competition like everyone else.

But the contests are created for the members of the forum. Either you're involved with SBR or you're not. While I agree the forums are mostly full of garbage, those contests are almost like a reward for putting up with it.

Read threads about buztah masturbating in pumpkin pies, jjgold's not so subtle homosexuality, Enogsiwon's stupitidy locks, or any other number of threads that lower your IQ and you get a chance to win some points/cash. Fair trade off, I think.

I'm playing against someone who has 0 posts and I've never heard of him. I think maybe a minimum of 20 posts should weed out some of the ghosting.

Notice that CarpeDime has not entered any contests since joined in. He doesn't like free money.

Okay but here's the thing: at some point my brother will probably win some points, so that will lead to me giving a detailed explanation of how those work. Maybe in turn that will lead to him doing the one post-a-day thing to keep earning more of those. Thus he will become exposed to the forum.

It just takes one look at my number of posts to know that there is something in my family genes that makes us prone to getting sucked into this stuff.

Maybe a year from now my brother will be annoying the hell out of the forum with constant threads about his beloved Yankees and generally raising Hoya awareness - and he'll be starting threads complaining about guys in the contests who don't post - meanwhile all face-to-face human contact will have ended for the poor bastard.

This I believe is CrazyLou's grand scheme.

At least I will know I warned him.

Ghosts in contests are fraudulent and hurt SBR, SBR sponsors and the spirit of the contest. Anyone that suspects a ghost should PM a mod.

SBR John your right. I do think having a post mininum would be every good for the site. That would help on the contests.

Maybe is you put a reward, lets say 100 points, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspected ghost more people will out them.

Surely there is a way to weed out the cheats and still let new people on the up and up participate in contest!!

You might need to hire more mods. From what I have seen, there are more ghost conspiracies around here than Carters has little liver pills.

Well, the wise guys can create 100 ghosts and try to win the contests, but wouldn't the online books catch them when they try to cash (if the winner is really lyon09 but he lost in the first round...)

I just see so many contestants that never post. Which is strange, cuz you get points just to post.

It's like you can't do both.

It's better than covers, they're contests have like 30,000 contests. I like a 50/50 sports game better. Bulls vs. Pistons. 2 teams. 30,000 ghosts. = 2 much.
