Here's what I was able to find regarding this from rules page:

The deadline for registering and entering submissions for the Breeders Cup Contest is November 6, 2009 at 3:30 PM - Pacific Daylight Time.

That doesn't make any sense Crazy Lou? What happens if there is any scratches for Saturday?
That is the issue that I would have. Having to make selections by Friday afternoon for Saturdays races is kind of hard to do.

I think it would make sense if they had a deadline for Saturdays races on Saturday in the event of a scratch or two.

Truthfully I'm not a horse guy so I'm not familiar with much of this, this event was setup entirely by Jazz Sports and they decided to put up some prizes for our forum readers.

Here is what I think addresses your query from the rules page:

If a contest pick does NOT start the race the pick will revert to the horse with the LOWEST odds that is NOT part of an entry or field.

Question about Jazz, isn't that one of those books where you can only have an account at Jazz or another book (Loose lines I think it is)?

Does it have to be a Jazz account or what other books can it be?

No, you're thinking of ABC Islands.

LooseLines did have a registration glitch for a little while to Jazz account holders but it has been fixed and you are free to have an account at both places.

I don't think the rule about the scratch is a big deal really. The same kind of rule has been in place with Pick 6 betting at tracks where your picks have to be in a few races ahead of time and a late scratch happens.

When you are speaking about a different day then that could be a problem. You have no idea what scratches will happen on the day after. When you get the favorite if there is a scratch is not good either. There is at times I don't like the favorite at all and bet against it.

I can not find any "group play" section. I am already a member at Jazz Sports and when I fill out the registration that comes up by clicking on the site you have provided above it says username already taken. Then when I click on the contest, it asks for user and password, when I put it in it takes me to the selections for the races. Nothing about "group play."
