Okay we all know that casinos have an advantage over the player or else they wouldn't offer the game (unless you count cards). But what are the odds on blackjack of buying in let's say 400 in chips and playing until you double it or go broke, how many times out of a 100 would you expect just playing basic strategy blackjack (no card counting) to double your 400 and how many times would you expect to go broke?

thats a good question. This would depend on your bet size. In general you would come closest to 50/50 in a -exp game by betting your whole stake at once.

Search Alan Krigman at casinocitytimes.com and check out his archive articles. Should find something in there.

Unless they'll give you a nice bonus, you'd be playing -EV bets. That's of course fine if you want to play for fun and entertainment.
Odds for busting 400 or doubling it up changes according to your average stake. Don't expect to double up with $1 flat bets , but with $50-100 bets you would double up little less than half of the time. Variance can be a bitch and long losing streaks are possible. Obviously you have best chance of doubling up by staking all 400 on one hand. Black Jack may not be the best game to do that though, as you won't be able to double. |

Does anyone have an exact percentage calculation of if you bet $50/hand what the percentage of time you'd reach +400 before reaching -400?

You'd have to detail the specific rules of the blackjack game you are playing (# of decks, yes/no surrender, blackjack payout odds, doubling rules, hard/soft 17) before anyone could do so. As well, I assume that you would be playing perfect basic strategy?

I play a fair bit of casino blackjack at the casino in my city and I find if you are patient and wait for streaks to come and increase your bets according to the streak ie more when winning and less when losing you can have many winning sessions. NEVER bet hunches....and never play at tables with people that do.
good luck |

timmer,
You are the reason pros can make money at Blackjack. You'll never win long-term with your strategy. Only way to win is to learn card-counting. As long as other people play their losing systems, counters will be able to blend in. |

To answer part of the question, if you play perfect basic strategy, the house only has about a 1% advantage. As someone mentioned, it depends slightly on the rules of the game, but for the most part it's around 1%.

Generally speaking the most you'll see on the strip would be house edges of around 0.66% (the 8 deck, max 2 split, hit soft 17 game at the Flamingo, for example), with games as low as 0.28% being relatively common at many venues (6 deck, resplit aces, late surrender game at Bellagio, Planet Hollywood, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock, and many others). By the way, stay tuned to SBR for a perfect strategy blackjack calculator ...

That actually is the wrong attitude. You can beat some casino games if you work at it.
LEARN to count cards..... HELLO

With craps it depends on what you can bet with free odds. YOur best bet is pass/come with max free odds... It still doesn't turn it into a +EV game mind you.
