Ok what is stopping us from taking the 5 best plays on the board every day, and doing a 3 team round robin every day?
Shouldn't this be the best way to bet on baseball? More often than not we will hit 3 or 4 out of 5. Shouldnt this be highly profitable in the long run?

Absolutely nothing ... except hopefully your better judgment.

The best way to bet on baseball (or indeed on any other sport) isn't determined by what one asserts will happen "more often that not", but rather by carefully considering the win probability and payout odds of each bet and then constructing an optimal set of wagers.

Eh, I wouldn't say it was a rip. Ganch explained it perfectly. And yes, a smal round robin in association with larger straight bets is sometimes called for. Just use the Kelly Calculator and check the various parlay tabs for simultaneouis wagers. I must confess though that I only do two-way round robins myself and ignore any recommendations for three or more teams in a parlay.
