Default Hedging Hypothetical

Let's say a buddy of mine ... we'll call him "Joe" ... stands to win $200 in a pool at the local watering hole if Denver wins straight up tonight. He will definitely not win a penny if Green Bay wins the game outright. Joe has about $5 invested in the pool and is apparently sporting such a tiny pair that he's actually thinking about hedging.

So, here's two questions to help this poor nutless sack of shiite do the right thing:

A) Should Joe make a moneyline play on the Pack tonight at +150?

if so, then

B) What size bet should Joe make?

sounds like "joe" should either:

a. grow a pair, or 2. get Ganch on speed-dial

He should bet about 3 dimes on the Packers to prove he has a pair that would shame a bull.

That would do it.

If he is seriously contemplating it a bet of about $80 should do it at +150. I'm not sure why he would do it over a $5 pool mind you.

I would:

A) Pick up a bottle of good bourbon on the way home from work and avoid the local watering hole tonight if I was Joe, if that's what we're still calling him, Sean Seriously, reason I wouldn't go to the bar is if Joe wins, every swinging dick and slut in the joint will want Joe to buy them a drink if his $5 wager does return $200. Collect the $200 later in the week when the parking lot is empty.

B) Second stop on the way home would be for some pizza or Chinese take-out, maybe some good BBQ if Joe can find that in Costa Rica, er, wherever he might live.

C) Go home and put all the grub and a good part of the whiskey away while watching the game. Fall asleep in Joe's recliner around the start of the fourth or the first time Tony Kornholer says something actually worth listening to, whichever comes first.

D) Wake up Tuesday morning and see what happened in the game. If Joe wins down at the pub, he's still up about $150, maybe a tad less, and already had one nice night. If he loses, he's still out just the original $5 on the wager and still had a good night. No brainer for me.

I told Joe to grow a set and quit running around with his wiener tucked under ... just nut up and wait for the Denver win.

So, what kind of bourbon is Joe going to buy, I mean, what would be your guess?

The selection is somewhat limited where he lives, but I believe that Joe's a Jack or Jim dude. Me personally, I never touch the stuff.

I'd go with Southern Comfort, but that's just me.

Yeah, me too. I mean, I don't touch Jack and Jim these days, more of a Wellers or Bookers man myself.

Screw the ML and take GB +3 for $100. Joe is guaranteed roughly $100 profit no matter what and could win both for $300.

I agree.....Those following the " 'Joe' Chronicles" have been left twisting in the wind here, like a season finale cliff-hanger.....

Did Joe relent and safely hedge? Or did Joe in fact grow a pair of testicles in the interim?

The World waits.....
