just curious on how some people can read odds as books update them hourly.. like what to look for when the screen is all red. (I look at pregame live odds chart)
for example the bos/chw line was lighting up with alot of money coming in on many books a few minutes prior to first pitch. I was tracking the past few hours and looked at the history and saw that. it was at 8.5 most of the day and then all of a sudden the ML keep getting more and more until it reached 8. Does that mean that people were pounding the under late? Or what? If you have any tips on what I should be focusing on or how I should read this using ML, spreads, or totals i would appreciate it. thanks
With respect to totals, it's not uncommon at all to see them move based on wind & weather forecast as gametime approaches. Sometimes that's all it is. There are gametime decisions on personnel, or the move could represent the opinion of someone very sharp with a lot of money, or someone that's not so smart, with a lot of money.
Point being, you really need to have a baseline in your mind for where you think the total should be based on the matchup & injury/weather/etc data or you're really just guessing on what the line movement means. I'd say moves in overnight lines are a lot more likely to be indicative of an opinion you should consider. Money pushing the line around in the last hour before the game can be a lot more random.
