    Does anyone have any good recommendations for statistics books that will help understand the concepts used frequently here?

    This is by far the best book I have seen on the topic, at least for aspiring sports bettors.

    At the end of the day you need a serious training in stats and not just 'sports-relevant stats' to make it. i.e. you need to think like a statistician and know when certain methods work and when they don't work. These applied books focus on using stuff that works in certain situations and readers then think they always apply.

    My most particular pet peeve in the HTT is the situation where people who don't have a clue about the mechanics of regression analysis go horribly wrong, usually because they just run a regression on whatever data they have and think they've done their job. Anyone who knows anything about it knows there are 1000 ways it can go easily wrong.

    J7 has been picked on enough this week but I will say his book is full of regression blunders.

    C'mon people, it doesn't take a stat genius to do a little back testing on regression. I must say that these guys do. at times, try to make the goal a little tougher than it really is.

    All of these guys want to take shortcuts, Mathy. Justin is a prime example. He seems to take shortcuts in pretty much everything he does. The other thread is a perfect example.

    Jeepers....looks like a good read but it costs 57 clams on Amazon. I wonder if it can be purchased anywhere else for a more reasonable amount?
