MAn anybody that got him for free early has an elite keeper. Kind of like picking up Mike Vick three years ago for the Eagles

NOT the same thing because Vick never matched that season again and never will. Cole has many good seasons ahead of him.

He has the pitches to but seems to grasp that a 2 pitch ground out is ok too.

What Grits n' Gravy said. For fantasy purposes, the only negative effect is if your league overvalues strikeouts.

I don't know, the climate in Pittsburgh appears to be changing. Then again, they got off to good starts the last two years too (but not THIS good) and were awful in the second half. Let's see what this year brings.

Cole suffered his first MLB loss as the Pirates fell to the Phillies yesterday.

Not a terrible outing, his strikeout count was up and he hit +100 MPH on the gun a few times.

Cole with another strong, quality start tonight. Unfortunately, he got no run support.

He still hasn't allowed more than three runs in his six starts, although he only has four official Quality Starts because he failed to go six innings twice. His 3.42 FIP is running ahead of his 3.68 ERA.

Cole is a solid pitcher...that being said, I traded him and I'm glad I did...

    gave up:
    hunter pence + gerrit cole

    received:
    mariano rivera + alex rios

i needed a closer, rios has been on fire since i got him, similar player to pence IMO. cole is still a quality arm, he just doesn't get as many strikeouts as I had hoped

Pretty decent first half for Cole, in my opinion.

He finished with a 4-3 record and a 3.89 ERA. His WHIP is 1.30

Cole has 25 punch outs in 41.2 innings

Yeah Cole was never a big strikeout guy even in the minors, which is surprising for someone with his heat, but the kid knows how to PITCH, he is mature for his age.

Nice trade dude kid I think it will work out for you on that one given that you need a closer.

Cole painted a masterpiece last night as the Pirates defeated the Nationals, 5-1 in D.C.

Cole also went 2-3 with an RBI at the plate and is hitting a robust .357 on the year.

Solid 14 points in fanduel last night.

Keeping my eye on him, although I would like to see more strikeouts out of him.

Very good points. Cole hit 99.1 MPH in the bottom of the 7th the other night in Washington.

I've noticed he adds several MPH to his fastball when he has a hitter down 2 strikes.

I love the fact that he comes right at hitters. The "You know what's coming, try to hit it" philosophy.

this is why his strikeouts are low.
But I believe as he matures he will learn to mix it up and the K's will come.

Great matchup this afternoon in Miami between Cole and Fernandez.

    PIT: Cole (5-3, 3.51 ERA)
    MIA: Fernandez (6-5, 2.74 ERA)

These are two young stud pitchers who should have great MLB careers...

Very true. Imagine Cole tossing up a mid-80's MPH changeup when the hitter is sitting fastball...
