Default XBOX 360: Two Ways To Fix the Red Ring of Death

There are a lot of complaints about today's video game consoles and their increased failure rates. The Xbox 360, especially, is notorious for the 3 red light failure -- but an Xbox red ring of death fix isn't very difficult to accomplish. Actually, problems like the 3 red light failure can very easily be fixed by just about anybody -- you can do it on your own. All you really need is a little know how and a little more savvy, and it's possible.

There are a lot of options and instructions online for anyone who owns an Xbox 360 and needs it fixed, particularly involving the Xbox red ring of death fix. According to SquareTrade, the Xbox 360 has a 23.7% failure rate, meaning that almost 1/4 of all 360 owners have had their systems fail. You're not alone in that headache. With or without the red lights, welcome to Microsoft's world.

You have two options if you want to fix the "red rings of death" (the 3 red light error). First, you can contact Microsoft to have them fix it. Of course, if your unit's warranty expired, it will cost you over $100. Your other option is to do it yourself. This, obviously, is the best way. Not only is this method safe, it's also infinitely cheaper.

If you can find a guide and some bravery, you can find an Xbox 360 3 red lights fix. There are many easy methods that you can find, and you can have your system working in under an hour. Watching those little red lights blink isn't the end for your console. Just give fixing it yourself a shot -- you'll like the results.

Here are 2 methods for people who's warranties have expired:

I just got the E 74 Error message yesterday. Apparently Microsoft will fix it now. But I still found a nice fix on Youtube.

I had 3RLOD on my 360 for months, decided to give fixing it a try about a week ago.

    What you want to do:

-Buy the set of screws/washers/thermal paste off eBay. Search "3RLOD Fix" they are only about $5USD.
-Open up the XBOX, take the guts out, and remove the two X-Clamps in the back.
-You then replace the screws that held the X-Clamps in place with the screws that you bought off ebay (the kit).
-Then there are instructions to follow on how to make the XBOX re-heat those solder points so the 3RLOD goes away.
-You pretty much put the 360 back together (not the case) and turn it on w/o the fan running (so the solder points re-melt)

Then I would recommend doing the 12V fan mod, this will ensure the 3RLOD never comes back again.

i don't think anything ensures the 3rlod "never comes back again".
i had 2 different machines that were professionally fixed and both eventually came back with errors, one with the 3red lights, the other quit reading discs.

the original 360s were terrible, but even the elite i bought a year or so ago had to go to microsoft already.

Professionally fixed? LOL, my friend, don't you see any kind of contradiction in that sentence?

If your 360's were "professionally fixed" - the 3RLOD would not come back

The whole point is to re-solder the melted points so the 3RLOD goes away, THEN improve the amount of air that blows through the heatsinks so the solder points don't get so hot where they melt again, hence causing 3RLOD!

There are many ways of doing this:
    -12V Fan Mod (Increase Airflow)
-Remove aluminum casing from the cover of the XBOX (Increase Airflow)
-Remove the fan shroud in the back of the XBOX using cutters (Increase Airflow)
-Keep the XBOX next to your window or something, not next to the heater
-Vacuum/Dust the thing once in a while!

Trust me, these things work. MS repair service is a joke btw, if you are going to rely on them to make your 3RLOD go away forever, then you need to think again. It takes them but 15 mins to open your shit up tighten some screws and consider it fixed.

Mine did that once, I turned it off, and turned it back on, and it still worked, I guess I was lucky.
