Wow! I didn't see this one coming at all.

Multiple sources have confirmed with 40/29 sports director Mark Lericos that Nutt will be leaving at the end of the season. Sources could not confirm whether Nutt would offer his resignation, be fired or possibly accept another position.

BB,
You're correct. Especially considering their play (or lack thereof) at the QB position (and I'm not talking about the Wildcat formation with McFadden getting the direct snap from center).
That Auburn/Arkansas game was painful to watch from an offensive stand point.

Going to be tough for whomever takes over that program. McFadden's gone, and it's tough to contend in the same conference as LSU, Auburn, UGA, Florida, Alabama etc.

I can't help but to wonder if this somehow didn't have something to do with that text messaging scandal.

You're right about that, but people in Arkansas think the next Frank Broyles is coming through that door and lead the Hogs back to the promised land.
They are just another of the many college programs that, for some reason, think it's their god given right to go 12-0 and compete for a national title every year. When the reality of the situation is they're an average to above average (depending on the year) football program in the always-difficult SEC.
They'll have a bunch of 7-5, 8-4 type seasons and occasionally catch lightening in a bottle and go 10-2 or 11-1. But to the people in Hog Heaven, that's not good enough. So, Nutt is out and someone else will be in very shortly.

I doubt it, I think we would have heard a lot more about it if it were. I just think that he has done a fairly good job with Ark and he is probably pretty marketable right now and will probably land at a bigger program. I think the LSU coach will probably end up at Mich so maybe Nutt ends up at LSU but I actually think that Spurior will end up at LSU if that job is open. Who knows there will be a lot of shuffling at the coach position

The shark is correct on this one. Nutt does not have a favorable rep in the South East. He is widely regarded as a moron, although personally, I think he has done a fairly good job with Ark.

Are you guys kidding me. Give me a break. You guys are making the most uninformed typical remarks regarding a coach leaving a program.
Houston is a complete moron. He has a .500 record in the SEC but nearly half of those victories came against the mississippi schools. HE is 1-14 on the road against Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia. He is the longest tenured coach in a BCS conference to not reach a BCS bowl. He has a pitiful bowl record. And although fans from Arky might have too high of goals, we have had the talent to make a BCS bowl a few times over the last 10 years of The Nutt era.
This dude is an egomaniac. A few years back his extremely conservatize oddball playcalling came into question by the fans. After a win against ole miss Houston was quoted as saying "I called that play brother" after a passing play moved Arky into game winning field goal range. The sad part was that it was ole freakin miss. He was photoed giving the horns down symbol after beating TX. Real Classy. He hired a superinnovative offensive coordinator last year in order to sign the High School player of the year less than 20 miles from campus. Mitch Mustain started 8-0 with Gus as Coordinator. He threw an interception on the opening drive against South Carolina and Nutt Benched Mitch and went with his QB from the previous year and took the play calling duties back. We went on to go 1-3 the rest of the year and Mitch saw a total of 2 snaps. He left the U of A as an 8-0 starter to join Pete Carroll because Houston treated him like crap. Houston then ran Gus Malzahn off to Tulsa and brought in David Lee (Film technician for the Cowboys).
He just oculdn't stand the fact that everyone thought our success last year was because of Mitch and Gus and not because of HIM HIM HIM. So he has made his bed and now he can sleep in it. He has ruined so many players with his lack of development. He has never developed a QB. HE ran Matt Jones in the ground. Now he is riding DMAC into the ground.
In terms of off the field notes. He was having an affair with the local news anchor and even sent her a text message 16 minutes before the Capital One bowl last year. No wonder Wisconsin Cleaned our clock. Also, his physical therapist sent Mitch an email calling him soooo many childish names like Mr. Interception king, queer, panty wearer, etc. This lady sent the email to Houston's wife before she even sent it to Mitch. Diana Nutt forwarded it on to all of the other Coach's wives with the subject "Read this... Too Funny". She later wrote an email stating that she would like to take a 2x4 to Mitch's mother's head.
Houston Nutt embodies everything that is sick and twisted. He is so into himself it is pathetic. I guarentee that he will go to a program no bigger than Baylor. I cannot believe you fellas even mentioned his name with the likes of Michigan and LSU. You are completely uninformed.
I cannot wait to see him leave. I want someone to come in with some class. The whole fan base feels the same. Some one with class that has the same results would be acceptable. I am sick of seeing that moron chew his fingernails off in close games, constantly mismanage the clock, overcelebrate what should be easy wins, and support the attacking of his own players and parents.
He is a pathetic loser and I hope the only job he finds is one sucking dicks for a nickel a foot on the side of the highway.
He is bile.

As an Arkansas native, I always try to keep up with the Razorbacks. It seems to me That Houston Nutt could always coach a good running game but never develop a good passing QB. I have never heard any of this gossip mentioned above but I don't doubt it a bit. I have not been close to the program in 35 years. I wish him well but will be glad for the Hogs to get a new coach.

It has been said that he is the front runner in front of Singletary at Baylor who needs more help than any one coach can give.

Looks like Arkansas is going to be pursuing Wake Forest's coach Jim Grobe.
Quote:
LITTLE ROCK -- A University of Arkansas private fundraising arm approved a salary supplement Wednesday for Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe, a strong indication that Grobe will replace Houston Nutt as the Razorbacks' coach.
There was no word from the university, however, on whether Grobe would replace Nutt, who quit Nov. 26 and was hired almost immediately at Ole Miss.
The Razorback Foundation raises funds privately for Arkansas athletic programs and pays coaches amounts far beyond their regular state salaries. Nutt, for instance, made $330,000 annually from the state but had a compensation package worth $1.5 million a year -- much of the extra coming from Foundation funds.
Ralph Bradbury, a member of the Razorback Foundation's board of directors, confirmed Wednesday night that the foundation had approved a deal for Grobe. He said he couldn't confirm for sure that Grobe's hiring was final because that issue remains in the hands of athletic director Jeff Long and Grobe himself.
"There's absolutely no way I could confirm that it's a done deal," Bradbury said.
The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas reported on its Web site Wednesday night that Grobe would likely be introduced Thursday as Arkansas' coach.
Grobe and Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Part of Bradbury's hesitation to confirm Grobe's actual hiring might stem from Arkansas' search for a basketball coach earlier this year. The Razorbacks hired Dana Altman, who changed his mind and went back to Creighton the next day.
"You can have a press conference and still not be the coach," Bradbury said.

don't get me wrong, i know arkansas is a better job than wake, but i think the arkansas fans need to realize they aren't, & likely never will be, a top tier sec team in football
and for this reason, i question why grobe would accept this position when i have to believe he would be offered much more appealing coaching jobs than a lower tier sec school who thinks they should be playing in bcs games (not to mention their fans who have tendencies toward stalking)
edit: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html
looks like grobe agrees
