Default Thursday Night: Which Tech Is The Better Bet?

I like Virgina Tech getting points in this game, and also getting a few more days rest. How much will the Va Tech starting QB position effect the outcome of this game? Does anyone know who is starting? Let's get off to an early start like last week!

Ga Tech was idle last week and played Army the week before. So, you have the wrong team getting more rest.

Yep, that was my mistake. I still think I may take Va Tech and the points, epecially if Tyrod Taylor plays.

Default Thursday Night Game

Well that me be the first to say that when i first looked at the lines yesterday this game jumped out at me. Gtech -3 how can that be and those of you that are familiar with one of my capping techniques this is what i would consider a shady line. Therefore GTech would be the play. Now i am not so sure of myself anymore. Vtech going on the road after an absolutely devistating loss maybe this line isn't so shady. For now i have no play on the side but the total is easy.

OVER 41
Wait for it to come down cause everyone will be taking the under but the over is definetly the play. Everyone that watched Vtechs Defense shut down Boston college will expect the same for this game. They also saw a stagnent Vtech offense and going up against a good Gtech Defense. Look for alot of turnovers in this game that lead to easy scores. And for Beemer to open up his playbook considering that his questionable conservative play calls at the end of the BC game cost his team the game. How when u are on the 20 yard line dont you kick field goal to go up 13 to 0 instead they decide to punt and gain a whopping 12 yards field position. GOOD job Beemer.

Didn't GT blow past VT last year on the road?

I am going back and forth on this one though I am going to wait closer to game time to bet this one. I might just play the over here.

I'm not touching this one. I'm a GT fan, and I never bet with my heart. That being said, I actually hope that Tyrod Taylor gets the start. Jon Tenuta chews up inexperienced QBs, and despite all the promise he has shown, Taylor is a true freshman. I have a feeling this will be a defensive battle, something like 17-13 or 20-17. For those of you that are going to play this game, I would look hard at the under.

The game was really not as close as the score indicated. GT was up 38-13 going into the 4th Quarter. VT scored 14 garbage points to make the score look more respectable. The stats from that game are very misleading, it was a dominating effort by the Jackets. Also, there were some obvious blown calls that were laughable in favor of the Hokies. The moronic ACC officials even reviewed the calls, and still failed to get them right. Even the TV announcers were laughing about it.

Courtesy of bearmz's awesome injury report (if you haven't checked it out, you SHOULD):

Taylor's ankle improved
Tech coach Frank Beamer said Monday that he won't name his starting quarterback for Thursday's ACC game at Georgia Tech until Wednesday, at the earliest. Freshman Tyrod Taylor, who missed the BC game with a high right ankle sprain, has taken the No. 2 QB reps in practice the past two days behind Sean Glennon.
"Yes, I do feel like I can play Thursday," Taylor said following Sunday's practice. "I'm still going to treatment twice a day. I figure I was in the low 80s-percent range last week, but I'm up in the 90s and feeling pretty good right now."
The Hokies shouldn't mind going to Atlanta. Since joining the ACC in 2004, Tech is 10-4 at home and 13-1 on the road

Virginia Tech wins this game outright ... Forget the points and take the +130 ML ... I'm also taking a small lean on the over.

I'm taking Georgia Tech in this one because of there Defense. V Tech can't move the ball against a good Defense. I think the game will be low scoring.

Why is GT unranked giving VT ranked #11 points... looks way to easy to me. Something fishy if you ask me.

Default Georgia Tech -2.5

Georgia Tech is favored for a few reasons. Primarily it was what they did in beating Virginia Tech last year at Virginia. The game was not as close as the final score may indicate. Virginia Tech scored 2 meaningless touchdowns at the end to make the final score 38-27. I am not really impressed with Virginia Tech's offense as it has struggled all season. Seems like it has been the special teams and the defense picking up slack for a very inconsistent offense. Another way looking at this game would be for the oddsmakers to favor Virginia Tech by 3 points. To minimize loss for sports books, the oddsmakers made Georgia Tech a 2.5 point favorite. We would see a lot of action on Georgia Tech if Virginia Tech opened as favorite. There is no possibility of a trap setup by oddsmakers. The oddsmakers saw that there was no opportunity to set up a trap with Virginia Tech. IF they could set up a trap with Virginia Tech, they would have opened them as a ranked road favorite. Just not eneough takers and that is why Georgia Tech is favored. I am thrilled about the spread going down from Georgia Tech -2.5 to -1.5. Seems like the money so far is on Virginia Tech. Or maybe that is what the books want us to think. They want us to believe that big money is on Virginia Tech and we should also bet the same way. I am planning to bet on Georgia Tech right before game time and try to get the best line on Georgia Tech. I welcome any feedback for this game. And good luck everyone.

THis line is very accurate based on how these teams played against each other last. The oddsmakers love to trap the public by making teams road favorites. IN this case if Virginia Tech had opened as a road favorite, lot of money would have bet on Georgia on both plus the points and money line. There is no real chance for the oddsmakers to set up a trap and that is why Virginia Tech is not favored in this game. The books do not want too lose money to the wiseguy bettors who would have betted on Georgia Tech on the moneylife if Georgia Tech was the underdog. There was no chance for the oddsmakers to set up this a trap game. The spread opened up at Georgia Tech -2.5 and now is -1.5. This change in spread usually scares the public to bet on this game. I am being patient and will wait til the spread falls to one point and than I will be on Georgia Tech. I really do like the change in the line movement as I will get more value on Georgia Tech. Do not be afraid of which direction the line is moving and take Georgia Tech when the line drops to Georgia TEch -1. I like to hear feedback on this game and good luck everyone.

I think VT is the better team but not tonight. After last weeks loss to BC and the fiasco at LSU (I know that was awhile ago but I think it still bothers them) I can easily see GT having the upper hand tonight mentally.

2 units on GT to cover.

at 7:45 am 75% of the side bets are on VTech and 25% on Gtech, 63% are on the under. 98% of the bets on the money line are on Vtech. betting trends from sportsbook.com

so Gtech is going to be my pick since im pretty much always going against the public, im gonna wait just to see if the line is moving down maybe - 1,5.
good luck all

If VT lost last week, this would be the ideal spot to play against, but now instead of joyfull celebrating they had a week of "damn, we let that one get away" Is there a difference, I dont know but i still think with such a depresseing lost last week, still might be a play against. I just couldnt figure them out for this week. GT is a solid team as well, I am rolling with OVER 40. I think a lot of people will play the under because of the Good Defenses that have been shown, but look for a change with both teams scoring, and hopefull often!

Va Tech for me. I am counting on this one being close and the Hokies to win outright though I am taking the points.

I just don't think VA tech is that good. BC played as bad as you could last week and pulled off that miracle finish. Va tech also scored on a bogus touchdown that the refs blew. The have no offense.

I might just take GT and give the points, especially if the line moves. Taylor isn't 100% and Rollins makes a really good point here. They really don't have any offense, and against a stout D like GT this game might not even be close. The only thing I worry about is the absence of Choice at the RB position. Thanks for all the input on this pick guys. Hopefully I end up on the right side of this one.

Hokies get LB Hall back this evening to make things even harder for the Jackets. The under looks tempting but I hate for a punt block or other fluke play pushing it over, both teams have solid specials. One play for me...Va Tech +3.

Totally agree.. I like G.Tech. as well... This is a poll hater.. The unranked team is favored and according to the posted trends in this thread from SBooo the public is buying into it... The books might also want us to think that too... I can also buy that agruement but Ugga. Tech. for me...

I don't see it that way at all. I'll take VT +3 here given (2) third string RB's and a subpar QB. Both D's are stingy. I would thing VT will come out with a chip on thier shoulder. Even Gannon has some playing experience. No lean on total, but I like VT all day in this one.
