Default is Louisville a real threat for the national championsip?

I know that big east sucks this year. however, they can go undefeated and stake the claim. The big east teams does hold a strong following as well, but will the computers give enough credit for the victory tonight.

what are Louisville's chances of really playing for the championship?

100% if they win out, but I don't think that happens.

Razz, Do you really think there strenth of schedule would out do a 1 loss team though? I myself and a little skeptical of that myself, because these BCS computers have done some very strange things in the past.

I think they are in if they win out as well...not saying the system is perfect, but if they are undefeated, they deserve to go...

I like their chances alot, but what happens if Rutgers wins against them next week. That would really throw a wrench in the BCS.

Here is a krazy senario:

-Rutgers beats UL next week. UL is out.
-WVU beats Rutgers week after.
-Big East is officially done.

WHICH ONE LOSS TEAM MAKES IT? IM ASSUMING ITS A SEC TEAM.

you're crazy, Louisville will DEMOLISH rutgers, but I don't think they would stand up to Ohio State or Michigan...

If they run the table, they should get their shot even over a one loss SEC team.

But I don't think they can beat Ohio State. The Ville gave up 540 yards of total offense last night!

That doesn't scream National Championship to me.

I'd love to see Rutgers win out. That would make the BCS a mess. Would they deserve a title shot if they were one of 2 undefeated teams at the end of the year?

Even if Rutgers runs the table, they're slotted too low right now to overcome all the teams in front of them. And it's not like there isn't historical precedent for a team with no losses not getting a shot at the national championship.

The BCS would look stupid...but what's new about that?

They kept scoring so fast that WVU had the ball all night - and 13 points and 230 yards were had after the game was in hand.
Louisville's defense did exactly what it needed to do. The gameplan was brilliant. The DC knew it would be a high-scoring game, so he tried to force turnovers and punts. He stacked the line, realizing he would give up big plays, but that he would also pressure White and get a lot of small yardage and negative yardage plays. That would keep the crowd involved, and at some point force turnovers. Then, when they got the 16 and 17 point leads, he backed off, and let WVU eat the clock.
I'm here to tell you, if Ohio State and Louisville play for the national championship, Louisville will have the best defense on the field. I don't think OSU is going to be able to beat Michigan (and Louisville still has two very difficult games remaining), but I would love some Louisville +7 or more against Ohio State.

I wouldn't be surprised. I wish Rutgers was 5-3 or 6-2 so Louisville would be more likely to have a letdown. It seems they immediately focused their attention on Rutgers even in post-game interviews. It's hard to overlook an 8-0 team.

Haha. There's a big difference in who deserves to go and who will go.

You don't give up 500+ yards to a one-dimensional team and get to say that your defense is better than that of Ohio State. Your offense may very well be better but your defense is not.

I think you'll see what appears to be major improvement in Louisville's defense this week.

IMO, WV, and Louisville have 2 of the better if not best offenses in the country. Either team could make anyone's defense look suspect. An like Razz said they put WV's offense back on the field quickly, with some quick scores, by the offense, defense, and punt return team, to make it possible for WV to roll up more yardage.

IMO, the game has shifted, where Defense doesn't necessarily win championships, but great offenses do, as what happened in last years title game.

I like Petrinos philosphy of we'll take the ball, when we win the flip.

I'm pleased about all the Louisville talk, especially after they lost Bush early in season. I got preseason bets on five teams: Louisville, Texas, Auburn, USC, and Oklahoma. The last team had too much bad luck, but the other four are in the top 7. Missed Ohio St, so am hoping Michigan will knock them off.

I took those five picks straight from Phil Steele's preseason magazine. Best publication of its kind!

my fear is they beat rutgers handily this week, then get edged out by a pitt or south florida.....now that would suck. i definetly think if they win out, they deserve a shoot at osu or mich. i think that would be great for college ball in general.
