Because I have only been to games in the Southeast, my opinion is biased. But Ive got to believe that the best overall atmosphere belongs to a school in the SEC. Not to start and argument that cannot be won, but here is where I have been and my personal opinions of each school’s atmosphere. In grading atmosphere, I factor the stadium, tailgate experience, women, bar scene, town, and fans. Talent of team is not factored in.

South Carolina – SC doesn’t win in single category but is strong across the board. Tailgating begins very early. Women dress up. Food and drink everywhere you turn. Everyone is pleasant and welcoming to opposing fans. Downtown bars are great but have to drive there. Every game has a “big game atmosphere”. Grade A-

Georgia – Stadium is on campus. Beautiful women. Tailgating spots can get pricey. Walk to downtown Athens after the game. Best bar scene in the SEC (that ive been too). The bad – Your team will most likely lose and every other guy wears these awful bright red pants. If you’ve been, you know what I’m talking about. Grade A

Ole Miss – The most beautiful women in the NCAA. Every girl dresses up to their finest. Tailgating on “The Grove” is a unique experience that can’t be duplicated anywhere else. They also had a drive thru beer and cooler packer. Buy beer, ice, they pack and load your cooler. Don’t have to get out of the car. Grade A+

Kentucky - Similar to South Carolina. Everyone is pleasant. Stadium is off campus. Plenty of open green space to tailgate. Grade B

Tennessee – Large, Loud Stadium. Cant beat hearing the nation’s best fight song live. Stadium on the river provides boat tailgating. Orange everywhere. Downtown bars are eh. Grade B+

Alabama – Good downtown bars. Tailgated at a fraternity house which was very fun. Don’t remember much else other than we won the game. Grade B

Auburn - Its like Clemson without the lake. Nothing special, In the middle of no where. Although, the war eagle landing at the beginning of the game was cool. Grade C

LSU – I was warned about the hostile environment here. It wasn’t as bad as expected. Although you do hear tiger bait every 8 seconds. Great Stadium. Very Loud. Stayed in New Orleans which of course is a big plus. Grade is A-

Non-SEC schools:
Clemson – Obviously im very biased but I don’t think Im alone here. In the middle of no where. Every fan thinks they are better than you. All conversation is about how Clemson isn’t and should be #1. Finding a tailgating spot is awful. Pretty campus, loud stadium. Awful fake tiger roars over the PA system, the most over rated team entrance in the country. Guys screwing farm animals everywhere. Grade D+

North Carolina – Tiny stadium on a pretty campus. Football is just an excuse to get outside and tailgate. Arrogant fans. Very good downtown bar scene. Top of the Hill bar made the weekend. UNC does the best it can being a small school where football is not king. Grade B

This is what I took from my own experiences. Everyone’s opinions probably differ. Just my $.02.

All was great until you mistakenly wrote B instead of A.

Ya ive always wanted to go to a SEC game for the experience.. enjoyed the post, but Texas longhorns might give the Ole Miss women a run for their money..

if you have a chance come to a nebraska home game... best games-Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, K-state
I think you would find we have some of the nicest fans in the nation
Worst fans of the Big 12 would be Colorado, I go down every game there and they have their 8 year olds trained to say F*** Nebraska, but they have a huge tailgate area

Id like to visit every SEC school at some point to compare to USC. If for some reason i dont get to Miss St or Arkansas, Ill be ok.

At the same time, Ive always wanted to visit Texas, Nebraska, Michigan, and few others. I always find it interesting looking at the atmospheres where Gameday goes every weekend.

Id also like to visit Wisconsin and see the 4th quater "Jump Around". I think thats one of the coolest traditions in football.
