Arrow BCS FedEx Orange Bowl - Virginia Tech vs Kansas

    Miami - January 3, 2008, 8 p.m. EST - Fox

I am sure the odds will be out any time now. Lets get this thing going and get a discussion going on this bowl.

That is so bad, Missouri beats Kansas and Illinois and lose to Oklahoma twice (Kansas didn't even play Oklahoma this year or they would have 2 losses) and Kansas gets to play in the Orange Bowl? What a joke the BCS is!

This will be the best game in my opinion. My line is VT -2.5

That over 54 does look enticing to me.

I put 2 units on VT -3, and wish I had been aware of the opening of PK! VT is going to win easily.

You can blame the BCS for OSU vs LSU but you can't blame the BCS for this. This is NOT the BCS's fault. The BCS's sole job is to pick the two teams to play in the national championship game.

After that, it's up to the individual bowls to make their best match-up. Now, a lot of things go into that...how many fans a team will bring, what the television ratings would be, etc. You have to blame the Orange Bowl Committee for the match-up, not the BCS. (FWIW, I agree with you...shoulda been Mizzou, not Kansas)

It is great to see KU in a big bowl game. The fact that Missouri didn't get BCS might make many KU fans happy, but not me. MU deserved to get in. But I will keep my fingers crossed for a KU win.

Va Tech wins here. 27 - 21 (score closer then the game will be)

VaT , to me, looks like a good bet. If we can forget the egg they laid vs LSU, I think they were much more impressive than Kansas, despite KU's great run. I loved Kansas all year, but I can't get past their weak non-conf schedule and the fact that they didn't have to play Okla orTex .

Agreed. The fact that they didn't play the big boys in their own conference coupled with the only time they actually did play a decent team (Missouri) they lost. Taking Va. Tech. and giving the points here.

That's not completely accurate. The BCS rules limit each conference to having two teams in BCS bowls. There is also the "Boise State rule" that says any non-BCS-conference team in the BCS top 12 must be taken by a BCS bowl.

What it comes down to is that the Orange Bowl did take Kansas instead of Missouri, but that once they did so, BCS rules prohibited anybody else from taking Missouri.

If anyone actually watched Mizzou play Kansas you would see the KU offense could do nothing when there was pressure on the quarterback. The game was not near as close as the score and only after the game was in hand and Mizzou called off the dogs did KU start to score. While KU has a good offense, they have played a weak schedule and will be simply overmatched by a much more talented VT defense.

I am biased because I am from Missouri, but KU has not played anyone all year and against Missouri looked like complete garbage.

VT wins this by more than a TD

What an interesting day for me as I have been sitting here listening to different opinions. I can break this one down very simple....KU played their BIGGEST game under Mangino in their loss to Mizzou. High profile games have been a norm for VT. I wouldn't be surpirsed at all to see VT win by two touchdowns.

Virginia Tech will be motivated and quicker. They have a good 2 quarterback thing going. They had that shoot-up tragedy- sorry to mention it, but adversity seems to get people re-focused. Faster better smarter. 2 units on VT -3.5

The difference in talent will show up in this game..

Virginia Tech -3 from local bookie for 5 units

Lets see, Kansas is next store to Oklahoma and Va Tech is in the West Virginia backyard. So on that in depth research, I will take Va Tech -3.5 for 2 units.

    Good Luck Everyone !!!

Hoping someone here can help make a legit point for taking Kansas tonight, maybe a match up they can exploit against V-tech or something of that nature. I am really liking V-tech in this spot for many of the reasons stated above but before I get too carried away on this play, hoping someone can help slow my roll. Only got to see one Kansas game this season so not to familiar with them. Some help would be appreciated.

lets all remember that missu only beat kansas by a few points. ku was nervious going into that game and missed a few fgs 1st half. 2nd half they outplayed them like they have every game all year. Ive watched about every ku game and they are great 2nd half team, so if they are down or close at half definitly take ku.

Vt really has not impressed me much this year losing both big games to BC and LSU. Do i think ku is better than LSU no but maybe better than BC. Also the factor i see coming into play most is KU creates turnovers and has pretty good D. VT imo isnt that good on offense and KU will get a few picks to help them win this game.

Im taking kansaa here +3 and -3 and over 57 in a pleaser. Also one side note maybe vt is better than ku but in these meaningless bowl games it comes down to the team that wants it more. EX WVU
