    Default YPP? Sbr front page

Anyone else read the article on SBR home page that details ATS records for the top YPP(I believe yards per point) teams?

Im not great with stats but that seemed like it was too easy. If you got any insight on this or if anyone can provide historical data, I would greatly appreciate it.

I know the author very well.

No it's not that simplistic, the numbers presented are just raw data without adjusting for SOS or other filters like home/away. Still, the fact just the raw numbers are doing so well this year gives you a good idea of how nice a stat YPP is.

Just go to any source that list both points and yards. I just download from covers. Simply add a column with Yards/Points or YPG/PPG.

Clemson is 11.3 and Virgina is 13.5, line is at Clemson -20.5 so once you have the numbers how do I tell if it favors one or the other. I understand there are other variables, but is 1 point=7?

YPP is very interesting but is there any surprise that teams that score alot of points and don't give up too many points do well? i realize it's scaled by yards. but if points = points/yards times yards then it's at least half the information. and of course, good YPP on defense and offense affect the other.

anyway, i'll check the article. i think it's a good stat and i know tons of smart people use it.

The numbers you are quoting are offense only, I get NET YPPS of Clemson 5.5, Virginia 0.9.

Based on that alone, Virginia appears to have value at this fat number, but if you look at the last 4 games only for each team, you should get a totally different picture. Whenever the YTD and the last 4 weeks clash, it is probably best to pass.
