OK i understand that if youre betting the ML then you are obiously expecting the out right win, so i guess my question is why not just double up on the ML then split the bet... Not trying to disrespect just trying to figure this out so i can add these to my future plays.

The +5 is covering are azz in case of a close loss.
Like today I have the Pistons ML, and +4.5. Pistons just lost by 3 pts, so I broke even on that bet. The spread covered my azz
O wait they just lost, by 5 b/c they decided to foul with a second left. Wow. I lost both bets. Life of a gambler.

If you believe that dog will do more than just cover, but win STRAIGHT UP, youd be silly not to take the points for part of whole wager. If you have the better team, the point are just too much of an advantge to pass up. makes for a GOOD bet. But like houli said, we are gamblers. so the ML is often too tough to lay off. So, we place a wager on both.
