Default Everyone's thoughts on WVU/S. Florida

I think this game is gonna offer some good discussion. Personally I'm LOVING S. Florida +3.5 and ML +145, as I think they are going to ROLL W. Virginia.

    Thoughts???

i like WV. senior QB vs. freshman QB.... noel devine always seems to have best games on TV and it's his own personal homecoming game (fort myers, florida). not sure how much this stuff matters, but i definitely include it as an important intangible

Have to agree that this looks like the perfect spot for South Florida. After that embarrassing lost to Pitt this past weekend, South Florida will come out and really play inspired. While West Virginia is a good team, they turn the ball over too much to make them consistent. I can't see Leavitt allowing that defense to crank out another clunker. Selvie and the gang should force 2-3 turnovers which will be enough for the Bulls to prevail with the outright win. GL guys.

Fellas My opinion on the WVU/ S. Fla game is not very strong.

WVU turnovers will come to bite them finally. S. Fla Just got playing the best two teams in the Big East, though in losing fashion. Since that cartoon character coach took over for WVU, they have only scored 13 pts in each of the last two meetings. They lost the first meeting on the road, and won the second at home. WVU is on the road for this matchup.

    S. Fla or nothing though

For the weekday games I'm all over the V Tech/N. Caro UNDER.

South Florida sucks every year at this time. West Virginia has very quietly amassed a 6-1 record and is undefeated in conference play. With South Florida having no chance of winning the conference, I look for them to continue to roll over and play dead against good Big East teams.

wvu wins this one and cover the 3/4 points spread.

The main issue with SFu is the offensive, the receivers corp isnt very good, they mostly run long routes wich dont help their qb (who is very athletic) and the wvu DB's are better than cincy ones and they negated usf passing game.

Sfu main weapon is their D, but it'll be wear down by wvu running offense. The only chance for SFu to cover is that wvu turns the ball a lot.

I had S. Fla as a big play against pitt and as everyone knows looked terrible, I think everyone is big on them because of the Florida state win. They are not a good team, terrible kicking game, freshman QB, who can't run the offense. His only play is to tuck the ball and run and make an occasional play on his athletic ability. They could not stop the running backs of Pitt, who are both freshman, I can't see them stopping Devine, who as someone pointed out will be looking to look good going home to S. Florida. Also, S. Florida has historically played terrible, uninspired football this time of year and that was with an experienced leader at QB--I don't see this freshman QB getting the job done, even with the fumble prone, goofy head coach of WVU. If this game was on Sat I wouldn't play it--but after all it is the only football game on TV on Friday so of course you have to play alittle something for fun. Small play on WVU.

My opinion is bias but.... After looking at the highlights on the pitt usf game i don't think usf has a chance. As a guy said up top this is about the time of the year south Florida starts going down hill.. I think Brown is due for a big game, last week he looked at little scared(not wanting to take a big hit). I don't like wvu against big spreads but i think they win this game by more than 3. If wvu can take care of the ball and manage the game well i don't think its even close..

    West Virginia:

Beat Liberty at home by 13 (ouch)
Beat East Carolina at home by 15 (alright)
Lost on the road to Auburn by 11 (ouch)
Beat Colorado at home by 11 (ouch)
Beat Syracuse on the road by 21 (alright)
Beat Marshall at home by 17 (alight if the score wasnt so misleading since they were actually losing at halftime, and opened up the lead late)
Beat UCONN at home by 4 (Ehhh...hard to judge)

Basically WVU hasnt played ANYONE, and the one average team they played on the road beat them by double digits.

South Florida has only beaten one decent team in Florida St. on the road, which is a better win that WVU has on their record. Their other four wins are nothing to write home about but they were all big wins against poor teams. They didnt struggle with poor teams like WVU did.

Their two losses are to the two best teams in the Big East (no WVU is not one of the two best so please save your breath). They are going to come out hungry and angry and they are at home. WVU has NO BUSINNES giving up over a field goal in this spot.

This is a totally and utterly rediculous post from someone who displays little knowledge about the game. Just who has South Florida defeated? Well, there are TWO FCS teams, Western Kentucky, Syracuse and Florida State. Not a winning team amongst them. They got the crap kicked out of themby Pitt, and Cincy. They have no QB. West Virginia knows the past history between these two schools, and will come out with all guns blazing. South Florida will have no answer for Devine and Brwon. As pointed out, South Florida ALWAYS takes a crap this time of year. Nothing will change on Friday. If you think differetly and want to challenge me, put your money where your mouth is. Consider yourself called out.

Ok....what's the wager.....I already put money where my mouth is. Tell me what you're offering. Know nothing of the sport? I havnt posted a losing record yet this year hotshot.

and by the way ****o....i said F. Florida hasnt played anyone either....The difference is they beat the shit out of the bad teams they played whereas W. Virginia struggled. Plus the win at Florida St. is way more impressive than anything W. Virginia has to offer.

    what's the wager?

and one more thing...if you're basis for taking W. Va. is because "S. Florida always takes a crap this time of year", and I'm the one that knows little of the sport, then you're a fool.

What kind of reasoning is that? Just like Wannstedt NEVER covers spreads on the road right? Which is why I was a dummy both times this year when I took Pitt. @ Louisville, and @ Rutgers? Stick it.....you're a joke, and you're whole "we" shpeal is a joke......"we" bet enough to get opening lines that no one else sees.....give me a break you fool. I'll outcapp you any day of the week. Let's have a competition big guy. Come up with the terms

So let me get this straight Bigdaddy (more like little boy). You "call me out" and ask if I "want to challenge you". I respond numerous times, and you don't show your face again.

    You're a little bitch

USF seems to be in a nice spot and has a nice defense, but their freshman QB's play has been inconsistent and frankly not very good. No need to be on a game where you have no idea what (if anything) you're going to get from your sides QB. I won't play this game, but would also lean WV.

At no point will I be putting any amount of money on Daniels. The kid struggles with something that just MAYBE might be important for a QB, and that is accuracy. Anyone who watched that game last week, knows that SFlorida's athletic D-front can't stop the run, and Daniels is a poor passer. No play for me.

Has shown lots of potential and I think S Fl stays with WV

Wvu had the 18 hardest schduel at one point this year...if wvu could hold the ball they would be undefeated.. Auburn was given the ball atleast 4 times in there red zone beause of wvu turn overs and they barley won I mean come on.. Every year you people crack on wvu and who they play. Wvu comes out to play in big games.

I like South Florida also. They are a discipline football team that can beat a West Virginia team that constantly shoot themselves in the foot. Also on top of that West Virginia defense is very soft. People should have seen that when Colorado put points on them. They commit to many turnovers and they are very weak on defense. I would take South Florida and the money-line. Thats the wise play.

DblDown I haven't yet read everyone's thoughts because I didn't want to confuse what bothers me in this game. So if it's already been mentioned I apologize for re-hashing.

South Florida has a group of incredible athletes. They are fast and physical and in those categories I tend to think they have a decided edge. When Mike Ford is healthy he is a beast of a back. The defense can be monsters and you won't get outside on them without some misdirection involved.

The problem's for South Florida are in two main areas for me. First the offensive play calling. They have a freshman back-up QB in for Grothe who went out with a season ending injury. The kid has a nice arm and plenty of agility but they are calling plays that require time for receivers to get down field and or open. This causes to much pressure and too much distraction for a young inexperienced quarterback to handle. If the coaches were to call more slants and out patterns that are quick developing things would be much different. Also Daniels needs to forget the stereotyping and run the friggin ball more instead of trying to scramble around waiting for receivers to get open.

The second problem is on defense. It is true what I said about the praise of the defense butt he negative is they aren't disaplined in assignments. They are so used to being so athletic and flat out fast they can make errors and still end up making plays. This has cost them in their last two games. It has been evident in previous games as well but they overcame in those games. They will need to play disaplined assignment football. The backside defenders can't be crashing and opening up for big gainers on misdirection and reverses.

South Florida has the ability and the players to win this game but based on how they have been performing from play calling to on the field situations I couldn't force myself into a play here on a side.

There is probably some value in the total but I won't even make an attempt at guessing which way to go there.

Good luck in whatever way you end up deciding to go.

I'm not saying wvu has played the best teams in the country but USF wins are against trash teams except FSU..
    40-7 win against 2-5 Wofford.
35-13 against a WINLESS Western Kentucky.
    59-0 against 2-5 charleston southern.
    17-7 against 3-4 FSU.
    34-20 against 3-4 Syracuse
0-2 against ranked opponents this year. A combined score of 75-31.

Strength of schedule is based on the record of the teams you play right? So being 20 doesnt mean much....just because you play decent teams from bad conferences. Those teams end up with decent records...but doesnt make them very good teams.

    West Virginia's schedule:
    DATE OPPONENT W-L (CONF) RESULT
    9/05 Liberty 1-0 (0-0) W 33-20
    9/12 East Carolina 2-0 (0-0) W 35-20
    9/19 @ Auburn 2-1 (0-0) L 41-30
    10/01 Colorado 3-1 (0-0) W 35-24
    10/10 @ Syracuse 4-1 (1-0) W 34-13
    10/17 Marshall 5-1 (1-0) W 24-7
    10/24 Connecticut 6-1 (2-0) W 28-24

    South Florida's schedule:
    DATE OPPONENT W-L (CONF) RESULT
    9/05 Wofford 1-0 (0-0) W 40-7
    9/12 @ Western Kentucky 2-0 (0-0) W 35-13
    9/19 Charleston Southern 3-0 (0-0) W 59-0
    9/26 @ No. 18 Florida State 4-0 (0-0) W 17-7
    10/03 @ Syracuse 5-0 (1-0) W 34-20
    10/15 No. 8 Cincinnati 5-1 (1-1) L 34-17
    10/24 @ No. 20 Pittsburgh 5-2 (1-2) L 41-14

West Virginia's schedule may be a bit tougher...but both are pretty weak. Regardles of what the SOS is. West Virginia hasnt played a team near the caliber of Cincy or Pitt. and no Auburn doesnt count because they are an average team at best.

In fact Auburn and Florida St. are probably the two most even teams out of both these schedules, and both were road games so it's a good measuring stick. West Virginia went to Auburn and lost by double digits......South Florida went to Florida St. and won by double digits. Now S. Florida gets West Viriginia at home after being beat up by the two best teams in conference so they are undervalued. West Virginia is a favorite by over a field goal? That is such a joke....trust me when I tell you that. S. Florida is going to win this game ML by at least a touchdown
