Default Boston College @ Notre Dame

    Boston College +10

This may be Frank Spaziani's 1st year as head coach but this isn't his first time facing Notre Dame. Spaziani has been the Defensive Coordinator for BC since 1999. In their two meetings against Weis and the Irish, BC is 2-0 (one on the road and one at home) and have played good D against ND forcing 5 Turnovers last year and 2 the year before. Public is going to be heavy on the Irish at home after a huge loss to USC and now they are getting another shot at home. ND is giving up 10 points to a team that they have failed to beat the last two years. BC hasn't done well on the road this year, but ND hasn't been stellar at home either. ND beat a Washington (an inconsistent road team) by 7 points and allowed 30 points and 281 passing yards. Malcom Floyd is out again this week which is going to hurt the passing attack of ND. ND's defense has been a hologram allowing 25.5 ppg. BC should be able to take advantage of ND's lack of D and if they don't win outright, they should at least cover the spread.

Nice job, but a few questions....

Is the number still 10? Every book that I play at, including all those at the top of SBR----show the public has bet the number down to almost 7.

Sorry I can't cheer for you on this one, I have ND

SBR had BC getting 55% of the action.

That is where I got my number from.

I've tracked this game all week and it has basically stayed within a 50% to 55% margin Boston College side all week. No reverse line movement angle here. The Boston College +10 though wasn't around very long at all it quickly was at +9 and has steadily but consistantly moved towards 7.

Problem backing Boston College here is their road defense. While they have shown signs of playing decent defense at home it hasn't looked as good on the road. If Clausen is given time he will dismantle Boston College's secondary. I wanted to play Boston College as well but just too concerned about the defense. Not really concerned that they will score on Noter Dame as well so the over has potential.
Good luck Ackem, I have no sticks in the fire on this game so I can honestly wish you well.

BC has proven to be a horrible road team thus far, turning in two of the worst offensive performances I have seen in years. It's ND or nothing for me, Jon Tenuta vs. a true freshman QB - I'll take Tenuta 8 days a week. I know Barkley is a true frosh, but BC obviously doesn't have the supporting cast that USC does.

    Nolimit,
    thank you, sir

    kp126,

    MartinBlank,
10 was about the opening line. i haven't booked anything, i will go book my picks tonight (i live in vegas, so i'll just go to be book).

    Wall66,
you brought some good points and i was thinking the same about Clausen. I too may not actually play this tonight. i just wanted to provide a arguement for taking BC.

    BravoWhiskey,
    fair enough.

Let's face it. if Notre Dame loses this game, Charlie is fired. Maybe not on Monday, but certainly by the end of the season. Boston College has played two away games and were dismantled in both. The question is how big of a let down will the Irish have after the USC loss last week.

Ackem.........my real concern here is Notre Dames mindset. After the loss to USC last week there are two real possibilities. The first is the Irish come out strong and do what they can to embarrass Boston College to show they are still a better team this year. The second they are still effected and are flat and just go through the motions. I tend to lean towards the motivated choice because if they can win out it only improves their bowl selections. Sometimes factoring in emotion can be a slippery slope which is why I avoided this game all together.

    BigdaddyQH,
Weis getting fired is long overdue.

    wal66,
in my opinion factoring in emotion is beyond my level of capping. probably just a smarter move to avoid this game.

    Good points everyone.

And I think I am capping this game from the emotion angle, not making me the smartest of cappers. ND has lost 6 straight to BC---and as crazy as this sounds, but a 10-2 ND will probably end up in a BCS game. Those bowls can't resist the tv ratings ND brings.

Losing 6 straight I think motivates ND here.

    Good luck.

Notre Dame has ZERO chance of going to a BCS game. Not with Boise State running the table. USC would have to lose TWICE for Notre Dame to get to a BCS game. Notre Dame has a better chance of losing one more game than USC has of losing two. The Irish are finished as far as a BCS team is concerned. The only question is whether or not they play in the Gator Bowl. They can afford another loss and still get there.

I AM NOT SAYING ND IS GOING TO GET A BCS BID...I am saying ND has a very good chance at getting a BCS bid if they win out, and with that schedule they have---they should win out. Their schedule is ridiculous.

USC has no affect on ND's BCS chances. USC gets in by virtue of winning the Pac-10.

    Look at it again.

    There are 10 spots.

    Teams guaranteed to get in:

    Alabama (SEC Winner)
    Florida (SEC RunnerUp)
    USC (Pac-10)
    Texas (Big 12)
    Georgia Tech or Miami (ACC)
    Iowa (Big 10)
    Cincinnati (Big East)
    Boise State (WAC)

    That leaves two spots.

TCU could get another one, but if they lose a game---2 spots remain open.

For ND to be selected, they only requirement they have is to finish with 9 wins and be among the top 14 teams in the BCS standings.

This would be the pool of teams eligible.....

SEC. No team from the SEC would be eligible as only 2 teams from one BCS conference are eligible.

Pac 10. If USC beats Oregon-----every team in the Pac-10 would have 2 losses.

Big East. The Big East will only get one team.

Big 12. Oklahoma already has three losses, so they are out. Oklahoma State is the only other team with a shot at finishing with less than two losses, but they have a brutal schedule down the stretch.

ACC. Miami and GT are the only two schools that have just 1 loss. Both have a shot to run the table. Miami would get the bid to the ACC title game by virtue of beating GT.

Big 10. If Ohio State beats Penn State, every team in the Big 10 will also have 2 losses outside of Iowa.

This would be the pool if TCU and Boise win out.

    1-loss GT
    2-loss Ohio State
    2-loss Oklahoma State
    2-loss Oregon
    2-loss Notre Dame.

If either TCU or Boise lose, 2 teams from that list get selected.

With TV ratings being so important, I would imagine ND gets serious consideration from among that group.

people that think charlie weis deserves to be fired are so out of touch with reality its not even funny....what hes done with that program since arriving is...well not incredible...but its pretty impressive....considering the state of the program when he got there....took underachieving kids to two bcs bowl games...yes they got waxed...but they were severely overmatched....he brought in studs like clausen(best pure passer in the country and possible top 5 pick), tate, and michael floyd(andre johnson pt 2) and kyle rudolph(maybe the best TE in the country)....they are a defense away from national title contention....there just arent enough athletes on the defensive side of the ball...and u can tell alot of these kids love playing for him...i cant believe how many people(irish alumn) are missing the beat here...he took a bunch of underachieving kids like quinn, stovall, samardzija and made something with them....then completely had to rebuild...and now those kids are starting to come of age...a decent defense has everybody in country talking about what a great job charlie has done
