Default SweetPete's Picks/Write-Ups Saturday 9/5

Was hoping to start off 2-0 on Thursday, but I have a feeling most people had NC St. Boise looking good though. Anyway, I'm strapped for time, so take my 'write-ups' for what their worth

TEXAS A&M -15 vs New Mexico (2 units)
Aggie fans are getting frustrated and Coach Sherman will have this improved team ready for this one. New Mexico has a new offensive schemes to learn, and doing it in front of 100,000 "12th Men" isn't the greatest way to do it. A&M 35-7

OHIO +3.5 vs UConn (1.5 Units)
Ohio was better than their 4-8 record LY would indicate and returns most of their key players, whereas UConn's only offensive weapon (Donald Brown) is gone, and a rebuilding year is upon them. OHIO 24-20

CAL -21 vs Maryland (1.5 Units)
Revenge! Maryland will make a long trip to Cal with an inexperienced team and will get their butts kicked. Cal was embarrassed LY and will be ready for this one.
CAL 38-10

SAN JOSE ST. +33.5 @ USC (1.5 units)
Thats too many points to give with a Frosh QB vs. a not-all-that-bad SJS team. It'll take a while for QB Barkley to hit his stride. USC 28-9

BYU +22 vs. Oklahoma (1 unit)
Injury to OUs Gresham is just one more reason why QB HALL & BYU will be able to keep this one close. Okla. 42-27

NEVADA +14.5 @ Notre Dame (1 unit)
ND doesn't deserve to be such big favs vs. a quality team like Nevada. The Irish tend to be slow out of the gate every year, and an upset wouldn't surprise me here. The digging of Weis' grave may begin after this one. ND 34-31

LA TECH+14 @ Auburn (1 unit)
Auburn hired a terrible coach from a terrible Iowa St. team, and will have a terrible opening game against a decent La Tech team. Auburn 17-14

C. MICHIGAN +14 @ Arizona (1 Unit)
Despite to long trip out west, CM has enough talent to keep this one close. Heat won't be a factor either (temps in hi 70s to lo 80s) 'Zona 28-20

GL This weekend Everyone!

I have a very small bet on Washington +17.5 only b/c I think UW is much improved this year and b/c it's a long trip for LSU. Remember, UW should have beaten BYU at home to start 2008. I have a small play on Va Tech +7 (-120) and the under 38.5. I think 'Bama is overrated and Va Tech's defense and special teams should keep them in the game. I'm not sure why everyone is so high on Alabama, especially with a new QB and no more Glen Coffee or Andre Smith. GL this weekend!

ADDING 1 MORE PLAY...

NAVY +21.5 @ Ohio St. (1 unit)

With USC on deck, and a confusing triple option offense to learn how to defend, Navy may keep this one interesting. Getting that extra half point made me pull the trigger. Ohio St. 38-21

All 6 games so far have gone under i think. I wonder if this is going to be a trend. Those clock rules they put in last year have really changed totals betting. I'm putting small bets on these unders tomorrow... Mizzou/IL, Toledo/Purdue, 'Bama/VT

Thanks, GL to you too nevadaside! I'm content going .500 today. Guess I underestimated Notre Dame, Auburn, and USC.

6-5 So far this year -1.1 units. I think most of us lost opening week. SUNDAYs PLAY.....

COLORADO -11 vs. Colo. St. (1 unit)

Colorado is looking to turn the corner this year, and CSU lost their star RB and QB, so they'll be rebuilding. Colorado spanked them in Denver LY, and now they get the Rams in Boulder TY. Two teams headed in opposite directions this year. COLORADO 45-17

Boy Does Colorado suck. Chalk this one as a loss in the 4th Quarter. On to Monday...

CINCINNATI +5 @ Rutgers (1.5 Units)
NO respect for the Bearcats! LY I won a 10 unit play on Fresno St. +4 @ Rutgers, which leads me to 2 possible conclusions... 1) Rutgers will be more prepared this year, or 2) Rutgers is unreliable early in the year. If they were playing McNeese St., I may say that Rutgers will be prepared to blow the competition out. But playing LYs Big East champs will be a daunting task. Rutgers' young offense and Cincy's young defense is a wash, so I'll take my chances on Tony Pike and a big-game-tested offense over a stingy Rutgers Defense. Should be a great game! CINCY 20-17

MIAMI +7 (-120) @ Florida St. (1 unit)
Plain and simple, this game is generally close, and you can almost throw the records and talent levels out the window. Miami was very young LY and still made a bowl game. Florida St. is predicted to make the ACC Title Game TY. The key to this game staying within a TD will be FSUs Off. vs a strong Miami Secondary. FSU relied on the run LY and won't be as talented TY, so they may have to pass more which could play into Miami's hands. I think this goes down to the wire and caps off a great Labor Day of college football!
FSU 27-24

Enjoy the Holiday!

I'm all over FSU...I'll fade Pat Nix's team anyday! The man is a joke of a coach.....and it's the coach that prepares the team. BIG, BIG, BIG on FSU...got mine at -6.5. I agree with your CINN play......Good Luck!!

We'll see if you're right on FSU. My main angle is the fact that this game is generally close. But you're right in that FSU has the definite coach advantage!

LT Profits free pick on the homepage is Florida St. -6. These people are NEVER right on their picks. I've faded them many a time, even on games I have no reason to be betting. I'm feeling better about my Miami Pick. Cincy's kicking ass. Should be a great Labor day.

Wow! What a game! Winning money on it made it that much better. As usual, LT Profits Free Pick was wrong. I'm gonna fade those guys every day. Ended up 8-6 for the weekend (+0.3 Units). In the green, baby!
