Default Kirby Zhang's TOP PLAYS for College Football Week 1

    College Football Arrives

The 2009 College football season is here. Some of you may know me from the previous college basketball season, and maybe even the Major League Baseball season, but if there is one thing I am absolutely comfortable with it is this sport. College Football, the heart that goes into this sport is a million times the emotion of what is invovled in the NFL. These are young souls, with vibrant dreams, hungry, and ready to represent their school, for many that we don't know this is their fifteen minutes of fame. Some get drafted, others get finance degrees, some players will end up catching touchdown passes while others change lanes on the highway of life, and end up catching babies from windows. This is the sport we've all been waiting for. It is the best sport to handicap, it is consistent, and it can make you a lot of money. Before we begin I just wanted everyone to undertand that the top picks I put out may not have lines that match what is available. In some cases it is intentional because I like to buy points for security reasons, however, sometimes it's merely because I post early write ups. Now, I know this particular entry isn't that early, but I will usually post my diagnosis for the next week pretty early on in the week. Best of luck to us. Let's make some money.

North Texas To Suck On Big Balls

    Ball State @ North Texas
    The Pick: Ball State -16.5

First I'd just like to say this one thing, if you're in school currently use it to your advantage, if you're not in school, then think back to when you were in school. Okay, here's the thing I'm going to tell you, no matter what, "Balls" is the only thing you can say in class, and have it totally inappropriate, and you cant get in trouble for it. hahaha.. Now, on that note, when you turn your TV on Thursday night, I hope you are ready to see a horrific scene, and that scene will be Ball State, putting their balls in North Texas open mouths, and no, not footballs. Let me tell you a little something about the state of Texas, besides it being the best place on earth, everything is bigger in Texas, and the biggest thing in Texas? Football. Trust me I know I"m here right now. When you think farmland in the great United States, certainly think of regional states that specialize in certain areas. Idaho for potatoes, Nebraska for Corn, Nevada for whores... all the important things in life, and finally Texas for Football. Whats my point? When you're growing up anywhere, and especially in Texas, you don't dream about and say "I'm going to go to North Texas and play football and get raped while in the process" That doesn't sound appealing. If you are in the southwest, and you're going to play ball, you dream to go to Austin, or Oklahoma, and when those schools say your balls aren't big enough you settle for A&M, and Texas Tech, Rice, or maybe even Baylor.... But if you really ****ed up and you have no place to go.. you end up at North Texas. aka Shittiest Football School in Texas. You want numbers and less bullshit how about this. North Texas went 1-11, 4-8 Against the spread. they are 1-6 on the road and not to mention have lost their last three games. They know their going to lose, and the fact that you're reading this must mean you need a little reassurance they're going to lose. Don't be a ****ing pussy okay? Ball state will take care of business here, they will maintain control of the football, and the clock. They did it all last year and almost went undefeated. Ball State is 3-1 in their home games in their last four against the spread. 6-0 at home period.Ball State averages 42 points at home games, and the defense only gives up 18 points at home on average. North Texas' defense is worse then your grandmother playing defensive end, and her goldfish playing safety. North Texas on average gives up 48 points on the road...Looking for your balls? well, if you are ball state I think they are in North Texas' mouth. Ohh Burn. Time to get paid big balla!

Utah To Prevail Against Utah State in Rivalry

    Utah St. @ Utah
    The Pick: Utah -20.5

Since last write-up was mostly me trying to be funny how about something worth more of your time. Utah State is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games when playing Utah. Utah State is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games when playing on the road against Utah. Um I don't know about you, but it's not looking so hot for Utah State, especially with a 0% completion record, I mean you seriously, not sarcastically, seriously, CAN NOT do worse than that. Conversely with that said Utah is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Utah State. It doesn't get any better than that either. Utah is 6-1 ATS in its last 7 games Let me remind you that the Utes went 13-0 last year, and ended up as number 2, beating Alabama. Now with a new quarterback, the Utes will face off against former defensive coordinator Gary Anderson. Utah has an 11-game winning streak against Utah State, prevailing by an average of 24.6 points. The Utes set a record for most points in this series with a 58-10 win last year in which Matt Asiata rushed for three scores.Asiata should be the focal point of Utah's offense Thursday. The preseason all-MWC pick had team highs of 706 yards and 12 touchdowns last year. The Utes, who have seven of their 11 starters back on defense, are one of three ranked MWC teams, joining No. 17 TCU and No. 20 Brigham Young. Now I know what you're thinking Gary Anderson used to be Utah's defensive mind, he'll know how to stop Asiata. But I want you to remember this, Utah State has no recruiting at all. Their defense gives up an average of 43 points per game, and their offense only averages about 18! So **** Anderson, he can have all the secrets and the plays and won't be able to do anything about it. What good is an idea if you don't have the resources, or the tools to execute. Sure this is a big rivalry, but its not going to be much of a contest I'll say that much. Now Utah hasn't announced it's starting quarterback, but there are a few good guess... Terrance Cain, who has practiced with the first stringers, and the starters and has been taking most of the snaps, is a transfer from a community college, but this kid really is something. Cain played two years at Blinn Community College in Houston, passing for 3,138 yards and 29 touchdowns last season in being named NJCAA offensive player of the year. Jordan Wynn graduated from Oceanside Highs early and came out to try and start. He has been pretty steller as well. Football games are won with solid defense, and aggressive offensive. With a running game like Asiata's, and Cain's abilities coupled with the 7 returning veterans from last year on the defensive line, Utah is going to crush Utah State. Utes take this one easily

Northern Defense, vs Southern Offense, Gamecocks to Put in Cheat-Code Do a "Fatality" Move on North Carolina State

South Carolina @ North Carolina State
The Pick: South Carolina +7.5 (added +2.5)

For the sake of security I added two points additionally to this pick. Hey, if this was just about getting it right, and not money, then I'd say **** it, but since this is yours and my hard earned dollars working for us here, here it is, take the two extra points and buy a little bettors insurance. This is going to be a close, and hard fought game folks, both teams are pretty evenly matched, not great offenses nor defenses. I really see there being a lot of running the ball, a lot of clock kill on South Carolina's end, and it will probably be determined by a feild goal, I definitely don't see this game being decided then more than a touchdown and to commit a team to the responsibility of 5.5 points seems crazy, I'd rather just take 7. That's right, **** all you hippies out there, I'm a taker, not a giver. South Carolina won last year's opener 34-0 in Columbia, if you ask me that is a raping, and now they are the underdogs? am I missing something? Last year was the first meeting between the two teams since 1999 and just the second since the Gamecocks joined the SEC in 1992. None the less N.C State did sack North Carolina's quarterback a lot last year, but the big picture is going to be N.C. State's defense against South Carolina's offense. Stephen Garcia is able to move around, and although only a sophomore he should do a good job taking care of the football, if N.C. State wins, it'll only be by 3.

    Tulsa To Destroy Tulane

    Tulsa @ Tulane
    The Pick: Tulsa -13.5

Alright, I better get this one out there so there's some chance of you guys buying the points... and let me clarify this, the reason I want you to buy points is only for insurance. You don't even really need them. Look Tulsa is definitely going to take care of business in this game, they had the highest scoring offense last year, you telling me they aren't going to be able to take care of Tulane? Look I know that power hose offense is a little short this year, the co offensive coordinator is no longer there, their quarterback became a seventh round NFL pick, and Tarrion Adams their leading rusher is gone. But Tulane? Seriously come on now. I know what you're thinking, those three dudes got together, and made this team average about 600 yards per game, and about 47 points per game. But what's to worry about? Tulane has lost all 4 CUSA games to Tulsa by at least 24 points. Look for Tulane to get stomped on tomorrow. Get the points or pass them, Tulsa even lacking thier people should seal the final with at least a 21 point lead.

Oklahoma To Take Down Ranked BYU

    OkOklahoma vs. BYU
    The Pick: Oklahoma -18

Okay, as of late we've been seeing a lot of week one offenses, not really that strong, and taking their time to get the kinks out of things. That is not going to be the story with this game. Let me explain. Oklahoma is big twelve dynasty, and yes, we love God in the south, but we also are annoyed by Mormons. Now am I saying that this is not going to be a contest? no this is going to be about BYU trying to score against this OU team, with a returning Bradford that's ready to kick ass. Remember Bob Stoops (Oklahoma) is one of the few coaches that does not pull players, no matter how big the lead is. He is going to pound the score, over and over again. The OU team is a team that made it to the nationals last year because of their ability to score and control the football. They will roll out with the shotgun and play pass play "try and keep up" football. BYU is going to be a little more balanced, but against the sooners they are dead. OU averaged s whooping 51 points per game last year, and BYU's offense was only generating about 34. Neither team is really strong defensively, but when you're the sooners you'll be able to answer back, so it's no big deal. To say that the line is only about three touchdowns is a walk in the park, buy yourself below three touchdowns, and get ready to cash this one in.

Oddmakers Have This One All Wrong, Money In Your Bank.

    Missouri vs. Illinois
    The Pick: Missouri +230

Which ever line setter was responsible for coming up with this line was probably a little preoccupied at the moment, because he is highly confused. Missouri is a 6.5 underdog here, if you ask me this is a gold mine waiting to explode into profit. The books are offering +230!? There is no way that Missouri is that much of an underdog. You don't even need to take the points. Look Missouri has won this meeting the last four times since 2002. 4-0. 100%. Big Twelve struggles against defense and the SEC, but the big slow men of the Big Ten are no match what-so-ever. The Tigers have to overcome the losses of QB Chase Daniel, WR Jeremy Maclin and TE Chase Coffman, but no need to worry my friends. they will prevail. Blaine Gabbert will step in to fill the shoes of Daniel, he is a sophomore, and I see him really living up to potential. Gabbert is bigger (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) and has a stronger arm, but it remains to be seen how well he can manage a game. With that in mind, look for Illinois co-defensive coordinators Dan Disch and Curt Mallory to vary the looks they throw at Gabbert. If you ask me unless Illinois can figure out ways to score unconventionally and attack aggressively I don't see them winning. The Big Ten plays in a standard kind of NFL formation, they are in the I formation with a dropped quarterback, they are a slow offense, they run the ball, and try to control the clock. Missouri will play a lot faster, they will stretch out Illinois, look for the tigers to take this one.

Kentucky to Shoot Down Miami of Ohio Birds, RedHawks Soon To Be DeadHawks

    Kentucky vs. Miami Ohio
    The Pick: Kentucky -13.5 (2)

So, Kentucky not getting as much love as they thought they would have huh? Both of these teams were ranked very low in their divisions. But regardless of the need to work out any problems on offense, and re start a already routine system at Kentucky things should be back and running in no time. On the other hand The Red Hawks lost last year's season opener at home to Vanderbilt by 21 points. This game will be the head coaching debut for Miami's Michael Haywood, with respect to this information, understand new coaches and new players need time to develop chemistry. When there are personnel changes it is important to watch the team take form, this is a team that definitely has yet to take form. It will be sloppy and unprepared football. to say that Kentucky would win is very likely, Hartline and the boys averaged 22 points per game last year, not a steller performance on that side of the ball, but if I was going to commit Kentucky to the responsibility of putting up two touchdowns on any one team, this would be them. The Red Hawks have lost their starting quarterback, and last year's defense allow 23 points per game. If you buy down the points a little for some insurance this should be a sealed deal.
