Ok, I try and be realistic about things in college football but this isn't the 60's anymore. It's not the 90's either. So WTF is all this I keep hearing about Notre Dame playing for the National Championship.

Sure when Lou Holtz said it I blew it off because he old and senile as hell. He often talks out of his azz on tv. Now Beano Cook is saying it and then I heard it again from someone else today. Is this just blind loyalty driving this or something to it that I'm just not seeing? Please help me out any of you that are in the "know".

You aren't giving the full picture in your statement. Holtz said that because of schedule the Irish have the next best shot of the MNC game, next to Florida. He went on to say that Florida is superior to Notre Dame and will win.

I don't agree, but he never said they are one of the top 2 teams in the country. I see atleast two losses for the Irish, but hope for the best.

Yes, he is does come off as a nut. This is what he is paid to do.

I think ND will win 11 regular season. They have the ability to beat SC, but then will end up losing to Stanford or Pitt. They play a weak schedule, and do have an explosive offense. They're two wide outs are very talented.

Ok, I guess I owe and apology for my misunderstanding of what was said. I didn't see it. I got the cut down version from ESPN radio of them pushing the fact he said they would play for the National Champs. I do agree they have a good schedule that allows them the possibility to win most of their games if they are as good as people say. I just didn't see the beat Florida part and that's the part of the Holtz discussion they left out on the radio.

lol - I needed a touchdown from them last year against Boston College to complete a big teaser - they were shut out. Watching their offense struggle was an eye-opener and I bet against them whenever possible the rest of the season.

its not that far fetched....tate is a burner...and michael floyd is an absolute beast(fitz/andre johnson like...although not as athletic and fast)....kamara is very maurice stovall like...they might have the best receiving trio in the country...and kyle rudolph is already considered an elite TE...theres plenty of talent at RB too....armando allen is an all purpose guy...aldridge is a bruiser...and freshman cierre wood has been compared to reggie bush...tackle sam young has been starting since he was a freshman...theres tons of talent on offense....and these guys are growing up

the schedule helps....well see about the defense(jon tenuta hopefully can put his stamp on the unit this year)....and like somebody mentioned before about clausen....if he can limit his ints...this team will be very good...i think to the casual fan..the idea of nd being talked about as a national title contender is ridiculous...i think to the more savvy fans who really follow the game...its not that ridiculous....i think worse case scenario...weis is in his 3rd BCS bowl game in 5 years...this time its with kids he went out and got
