Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9:45 PM (ET/PT), from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Cal., exclusively on HBO
12 round WELTERWEIGHT Championship fight.
In the main event of HBO's boxing after dark, undefeated welterweight champ Paul Williams (33-0, 24 KOs), from Augusta, Ga., takes on Carlos Quintana (24-1, 19 KOs), from Moca, Puerto Rico, in a scheduled 12-round contest. Williams is making his first title defense after winning the belt in a hard-fought contest against Antonio Margarito in July 2007. Quintana's only defeat came at the hands of superstar Miguel Cotto. Both Williams and Quintana are known for their speed and power punches. |

I just got done watching this fight, and boy, Williams has been avoided? This is the first Paul Williams fight I have seen, but this guy looks average at best. Plus, Williams cut man didn't seem to be doing a good job. Williams has no knock out power, and doesn't seem to use his reach very good. Mayweather and Cotto would kill this guy.
Quintana wins by unanimous decision. A nice fat dog cashing in. |

Paul Williams would beat Cotto in my opinion. It's clear that Williams would struggle against someone with brilliant lateral movement like a Quintana or Mayweather. But against a stationary target like Cotto, you can expect Williams to throw his 100 punches per round average. I'd favor Williams ever so slightly.

Wouldn't surprise me if we've seen the last of Paul at 147. As much as he's said making weight isn't a problem, coming into the ring at 164 against Quintana obviously suggests otherwise.
